This is the best case scenario. Don't let him do any more damage. There's no possible way to get this team into contender status by tinkering with the bottom 6. This might be the best collection of playoff teams in one conference that I can remember. The two wild card teams will be punching bags, but the others are really f'n good. NJ might be a year or two early, but that's it. I'm looking forward to it even if the Pens don't participate.

This part I really agree with. I dont trust nor want Hextall making big moves. His Rakell and Carter deals were actually solid deals, but i still dont want him making big decisions in between now and the offseason.

Blues claim Kapanen... wow. What a break for the Penguins not just for now, but for next year.

I will go on record and say i dont think Kapanen is a bad player per say. He is overpaid and has the problem of not being good enough for a consistent top 6 role but not good enough at the intangibles to be successful in a constant bottom 6 role. A lot of people i know who have met him says he is a really good dude. Best of luck to him in St. Louis.

The most important thing he did for us was bring Phil Kessel back in 2015.

Wow that's big. Helps begin solving some of that logjam and now the Pens actually have a little space.

I'm not giving up on next year and I want someone else to make those decisions. He had his chance and f'd it up.

What the (frank) is Army thinking claiming that guy. Another non factor player in a team of inadequate players. Just what the Blues need. More mediocrity Now I’m pissed

Maybe they flip and retain some salary for a pick. Other than that, I have no answers for you. If the Blues are rebuilding, it doesn't mean much unless he's blocking a prospect.

Very weird. You likely could've gotten him with Pitt retaining some salary in a trade for almost nothing.

Warner Bros - the holding company that owns regional sports networks, including Pittsburgh has told the sports teams they cover they wish to end their partnership, effectively removing WB from sports. The complete fallout isnt quite known. No idea if the penguins/pirates could reach an agreement to take ownership of the channel in Pittsburgh. It probably wouldnt be as profitable as it used to be, but could still be done. It wont impact Penguins games for the rest of this year it appears.

When you toughest players are your stars you are in trouble. Too many creampuffs and not enough sand paper. They are as Therion once said SOFF. No pushback and no fight Sooner or later it catches up to you especially when your team ages. This is exactly what everyone feared Welcome to reality Penguin style. When you were fast enough to evade the thugs it worked Now the thugs are faster and you cannot avoid the abuse

Penguins get Gibson and Ducks acquire Tristan Jarry, Kasperi Kapanen, a 2023 second-round pick and 2024 fourth-round pick.
- dozerD10

Kapanen is off the board so Anaheim isn't absorbing his salary. Not sure the Pens want Gibson's contract and I feel it's a push at that point. We're taking salary OFF the Ducks for a goalie signed until they're 34-35. Feel like Gibson for Jarry+McGinn makes salary sense, they a 2nd rounder. That's it.

But as people point out, it pins us to the cap and doesn't really help the bottom 6 other than dumping McGinn.

This was probably part of the thought process with signing guys like Carter and Petry. The question now is what happened to these guys. No heart, no fight.

Pretty dramatic take. You just traded away two longtime franchise cornerstones. You are picking up a fast winger with some talent. He hasn't put it together for the Pens and is paid a bit more than he is worth... but he cost you zero assets.

From what I've seen, they want out by the 31st of March so it may become an issue for the end of the season. Sounds like they intend to go into chapter 7 if deals can't be reached with the teams.

What would a reasonable goalie target look like? Waive CDS and look for another Backup?

But this team is going nowhere and there is a defensive need. Blues are allowed to spend to the cap and with 3 defenseman making a ton of money confounds me Seems like a guy that won’t do much just like the team already has
