I agree thats missing. We need a veteran presence back there but Ekholm is getting to that age where play and speed could drop off at any moment. Sign that type of player as a free agent? Sure! Trade away a 1st? Thats tough.

Ekholm is an alternate captain with 3.5 years left on his deal. He's the perfect kind of target imo. They need a top-4 d, high-character vet with experience who is under contract

I like the potential savoie might have, but it's just that - potential. It's not depleting our forward prospect pool completely and he might not materialize into anything anyways. He's still another CHL year away from the AHL at the rate it's going and we could use help for this push and next year...

I'd probably prefer to offer up Ostlund, Mitts, and a top 20 protected 1st this year.
