I don't think Hextall is a good GM but this was going to be an average team outside of the unlikely full maximization of the teams depth. Could they have gotten a Strome, Kubalik, Perron, etc.? We know outsiders tend to not have the greatest interest in signing with the Pens. - Feds91Stammer
I don't really think those middle 6 type guys would've moved the needle, I'm not too sure anything could've been done to put together a contending team this year. they could've however put together a group of players around this core, that would've given them a better chance at success and/or better cap management.
we all knew giving kap, carter, and desmith those contracts was going to hurt us. Im not saying they could've used that money on someone or multiple players that would've turned us into a contender, but giving raises to players that didn't deserve them was not the right move.

Rossi saying Sully wants them to acquire Chychrun - Feds91Stammer
Someone already mentioned this....I've never heard of or known Sully to want any players outside the organization. I/we obviously have no clue what goes on behind the scenes but must of us have had the feeling at times that Sully and the GM's, whether it be JR or RH, have never really been on the same pages hahah |

Rob Rossi (so take it with a grain of salt) is saying that Sullivan asked Hextall for Jakob Chychrun. Hextall is not convinced because Arizona want our 2025 and 2026 1st round picks.
IMO, really smart by Arizona. I doubt Hextall would trade 2023 and 2024 has the potential to be a good rebound year for the Penguins if they fall flat. However, 2025 and 2026 could be prime years for the Penguins to struggle, especially if any of our core falls off.
I honestly dont know what to think of the trade. The picks for me would have to be top 5 protected at least. Im not willing to gamble with picks that far out without some type of protection. I can also appreciate Hextall not just throwing away long term assets that could potentially save his job. He either feels comfortable in his role or he is a much better steward than Rutherford was. Rutherford would've made the deal already and not thought twice. - SuperHenderson13
In theory you could probs move Petry or Peterson out and have Smith fill a spot. I think PHX has a young C Hoyton that has promise. make the deal with the picks but add the young C. He can't do any worse than Carter.
Move Petry for a pick then flip it + whatever and go for Brock Boesner? I think Rust needs to be on hte 3rd or gone.
(frank) if I know I barely know who's on the Pens at this point.

I'm sure it was something taken out of context where Sully said he thinks Chychrun is a good player. |

Curious what people think
If the Penguins go more into a seller mode at the deadline, do you move or keep Jarry? Im not even sure there's a contender that would pay for him much less a price that would make sense. But for argument's sake, if a team offered his value in a trade, do you take it and start to look elsewhere for a new goalie next year or do you keep him and commit to signing him to a new contract? |

A contender would need to have a starter go down for the season in the next week and even then goalies tend to have limited trade value. |

Boeser has been MIA most of the season he will not be solving our teams problems. hes got a good shot that he rarely get in position to use and isn't a physical player.

Would you trade him straight up for Bertuzzi?
Btw, Gibson is available just in case we need to find a new goalie. |

Why would I trade a valuable heart and soul player for an overpaid floater bum? |

I would sell any player not named Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Rakell and Guentzel. If you gave me enough, I'd trade Rak and Guentz too. I'd like to keep Poehling.
There's no fixing this team at the TDL. Why would you even try considering the conference they're in? |

I think the oilers left town with their minds, hearts and souls last night. Don't think they're getting them back anytime soon. |

haha A proud dad for sure. I have a soon to be 11 months old boy. Best thing ever.
My idea is go for two Dmen: Jake McCabe and Chychrun; One goalie in Gibson; One or two bottom 6 forwards (one beeing a C).
Finding a way to trade three of them: Kapanen, Petry, Carter and Dumoulin. I'd move Rust if the right hockey trade is available.
We need to shake thing up big time. Don't be afraid to spend your 1st round picks now. |

F'n awesome, congrats bud.
Yeah...I didnt care about trading 1sts not all that long ago...now I'm a little weary of it.
I'm fine with all those additions and subtractions you mentioned....seems a bit pipe dreamy for any of it to come to fruition though haha |
