Forward lines remain the same. Lets just keep doing the same and hope it works out. I put a lot of the blame on Hextall for the failures, but Sully deserves a lot of blame as well. His hands are tied to an extent, but do something else besides throwing that 3rd line out there. What a joke.
- SuperHenderson13

I think Sully deserves some blame, but really, what is he going to do without any cap space? If Poehling were healthy, it would give him another C option, but with just Blueger and Carter, who are you moving around? Swap Rust and Kapanen?

The easiest answer is to just flip flop the minutes and assignments. DOC-Blueger-Archy should be getting the 3rd line minutes, and Carter line getting 4th. Swapping the wingers with 2 underperforming centers isn't going to accomplish anything.

Wait a minute... is all this chatter about Petry being shopped strictly coming from Kingerski?

Agreed and the 2010 Cup finals with the Hawks will always be remembered, lol, for the sneaky Kane goal that Leighton should have had with one eye closed.

That was a very enjoyable series to watch. I can't say I was rooting for the Flyers, but it was fun watching Leighton play waaaay over his head.

If they don't pull him in Game 1, that series goes 7 games. The way he misplayed the GWG by Kopecky still pisses me off.

What are everyone's thoughts on Jarry? Has been a good regular season goalie when healthy. Do you want to re-sign him long term?

I am hearing about LA and Edmonton looking for a goalie upgrade and I also know JR is looking to shake things up in VAN. I'd love to see if we could get some unreasonable value out of Jarry rather than letting him walk in free agency. I don't want us to offer him a true #1 goalie contract as I think he needs to be in a tandem, and I don't think he is going to work the market for as big of a contract as possible.

It should go without saying that I believe we should tank this year and acquire as many assets as possible to rebuild for next season.

I don't think he's earned a long term contract. Maybe three years, no more. He does have to prove he's a playoff performer.

Unfortunately we have no one who can come in and do what he does. Not even close. I would offer him a base salary with incentives. Games played and playoff performance, for starters.

Thanks. Rutta has to be close to returning. Somebody has to go. We had this situation at the beginning of the season with Blueger. He was forced to sit out extra games due to our cap situation. We can't really afford to have Rutta out much longer. I know Ruhwedel is liked here but we're a better team when he's in the press box.

It doesn't make any sense to trade Petry when you're short on the right side. He probably has the most value and provides the best chance to get us salary relief. The best you can hope with Dumo is salary in salary out.

Unless they're jumping into sell mode, I don't see how it makes sense. Petry has been decent but nothing more. I don't think he's having the impact Hextall envisioned, but Rutta jumping into their second pairing is a scary idea. I agree, he's better the Ruh, but he's a 3rd pairing guy all day.

What about Smith on the right side? He played on his offside and did well with dumolin, was on 3rd pair though

I thought Petry was starting to look great leading up to that injury and long layoff. He had a lot of solid play in that 15-3-2 stretch. He and Petts were the Pens best pairing by a long shot. Just hasn't gotten back to that since returning, not individually or the pair as a whole. Is more time needed? Or will they never get it back?

-Trading McCann and acquiring Kapanen and signing McGinn
-Signing Carter over Rodrigues
-Trading Marino and Matheson, keeping Dumo, signing Ruuta, and acquiring Petry

3 simple chain of events that made the Penguins older, less talented, and more expensive. It's remarkable how much management screwed this up. A 3rd line including McCann and Rodrigues sounds a hell of a lot better than what we have now.

Elliotte Friedman said the Penguins are one of the teams looking at... Luke Schenn. So if you're wondering whether it can get worse... yes, it can.

A lot of my Leafs loving fam and friends, of which there are many, really want the Leafs to pick him up for 3rd pair. I dont really think he's going to move any needles for the Pens but I will revert back to what Thunder was saying about all the times the Pens traded for players nobody wanted, and thought were horrible, but they ended up being solid for the Pens. Hell, even Justin Schultz was dubbed the worst player in the league when he came to the Pens haha and that worked out really well. So, again, while I really dont want to acquire Schenn, you never really know for sure how it will go for a guy in a new environment.

Hard to not think they're getting smoked tonight hahaha...especially when you consider the first meeting vs the Oil was probably statistically their worst game this season...rocking a 32.97xGF% 23.81, HDCF% and 38.46 CF%.

They rrrreally should be desperate tonight with the Isles winning last night. We shall see what happens.

Is it possible that Hextall is subconsciously making the franchise fail as payback for not being to able to get his hands on Rob Brown?

I think this year is futile anyway. If he can somehow get Petry off the books and bring in Schenn as a stopgap for the rest of the year, I actually think that's a good move. I think Petry has been pretty good, but he's definitely not the player from a few years ago and he's already 36. Not going to get any better the next couple years.

The future for Smith is to replace Dumoulin. Not sure how much we gain by playing him on the right side.

It's very possible we resign Dumoulin this offseason. It will be at a much lower rate. I realize I just contradicted myself, but I have no idea what direction this team is going.

I do know this team needs to get younger and Smith needs to part of the equation.

He's been pretty sh!t since returning but I was really liking him before the injury. To start the season, most of October, I wasnt really liking him. You're right though, not much chance of him getting much better at that age haha.,
