I was not there but I watched the whole game. Provorov took on McDavid the whole game at 5 on 5. McDavid had one point at 5 on 5. That is a win in my opinion.

Anyone that actually watched the game knows Provy played a very good game. That’s the thing with analytics…they are a tool and not meant to be used to explain or determine everything that happens on the ice. When someone can actually tell us how a guy played with out watching the game and we actually see something totally different along with the coaching staff may I add, that should tell you everything you need to know about analytics.

That's fine and I understand that. Just have to keep in mind that's not playing really well. It's surviving. It's not all on Provorov obviously as he is not the only player on the ice. It's important to know that playing really well as a defenseman is preventing shot attempts and scoring chances and creating those for your team. Being on the plus side of those metrics and above 50% in all.

Flyers board used to get 70+ pages of posts on game day and now it's lucky if it gets that every 3 weeks.

A lot of people are way less invested but the people in charge don't care. Win or lose, it doesn't affect Fletcher's paycheck or Scott's paycheck. Fletcher's got so many titles for the Flyers that if he gave up the GM job he would just be pulling the same poop out of the limelight. He will be in Flyers management until he decides to retire.

several non hockey reasons why that is the case

Simply look at the analytics of the really good defenseman in the league and that will tell you what playing really well looks like. There is absolutely a team element involved and I've defended Provorov in that context in the past. You simply can't have played well with all the major metrics when that player is on the ice are below 30%. Simply not possible. There is no ambiguity there. No margin for "eye test" discrepancy.

I agree with you overall. However, McDavid is a different story. He had two points at 5 on 5 in two games against the Flyers. Any team in the league would take that. Provorov had a lot to do with that. I give Provorov an A for the two games against the Oilers.

Of course I want better possession numbers. I always want that. But again McDavid.

Also, Carter Hart and Ersson are both homegrown goalies that are very good. Hooray Flyers!

Agreed. Provorov was really good H2H on McDavid last night. He handled McDavid's speed very well. The Flyers never have good possession numbers and I think most teams don't against McDavid.

Time to trade Provorov and let Sanheim take over from here…

They should have left him in Edmonton honestly.

Who doesn’t McDavid score on? Provorov has seen him twice in two weeks.

Edmonton is treating McDavid like the Flyers did Lindros and never having quality goaltending.

Connor McDavid has 105 points at this point in February. He is a +4. What does that tell us?

That he scores half his points on special teams? (55 to be exact)

He's also top 5 in the league in EVP. With all that scoring at 5 on 5, his GF% is 51%. That tells us that he is obviously going to get his points but you don't have to spend the entire game under attack when he is on the ice. Plenty of teams attack back.

I guess it depends on your definition of playing quite well. What those numbers tell us is that when Provorov was on the ice at 5 on 5. Edmonton dominated play. That is not playing quite well in today's NHL
- MJL

Well cmon man he did not give up a 5 on 5 goal against McDavid that is playing well stop with the Corsi stats

No it's not. It's surviving. That is not the definition of playing well for a defenseman. You need more out of your #1 defenseman to be a good team. It's not all on Provorov but when you look at the facts of what happened when he was out on the ice. There is no way you can say that he played well.

When Provorov was on the ice at 5 on 5, the Flyers had 3 scoring chances for the entire game. Edmonton had 13
