100%. If Meier is able to rekindle his chemistry with Ehlers, it would be a great move. Not only would you be getting Meier but would also be improving an internal asset in Ehlers.
- TheUltimateJet

I should've been clearer, I only meant if Perfetti was included in a Meier trade, not in a one for one as I doubt Perfetti alone would get it done.

2023 1st and Perfetti for Meier with an extension, do you still do that?

If Meier could rekindle chemistry with Ehlers, that would be a positive for Ehlers and the team.

That would help fill the huge hole in the top 6 due to Wheelers "off the cliff decline" and absence of Perfetti. Wheelers best 2 minutes last nite was in the penalty box.

Trouble is, if Perfetti goes on a deal, now that is another hole to fill in the top 6. And btw, everyone talks about the Jets top 6, they really mean the top 5 as Wheeler is not a top 6 player anymore.

This team needs alot more than just Meire and another Dman.

2024 1st (top 3 protected) and Perfetti for Meier extended = done deal!

I would even ADD a Stanley or a Kuhlman, or a prospect. We need to make it happen - BUT - Meier hopefully willing to extend leaving "the sunny south!"

Having said that, I think Meier goes to Vegas. (guess)

Is today the day? Something about to happen!

If the Jets aren't about to take a big swing at this years deadline (they should). I'd like to see them take a flyer on Jesse Puljujarvi, or maybe dumpster dive for a Tyler Johnson type (Chicago would have to retain a large chunk of that salary). I was also thinking Konecny could be a nice fit in the top 6 for the right price. They really need a couple of guys that can put the biscuit in the basket.

I hate being negative when the Jets are concerned, but, I am starting to think that we should rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Keep the core intact, but it's time to move on from Wheeler, Schmidt, Barron, Gagner, Harkins, Heinola, Pionk, etc....

Get some draft picks and clear some salary cap space.

We aren't going very far this year.

Unfortunetly, you are not being negative but realistic. And, you can include Stanley in that mix.

Konecny is the Flyers best player and is on a great contract, his cost would be the same as Meir

that will all happen this summer and could even include Shief, Helle and PLD if contract extensions are not signed. go all in this year. the massive changes are coming this summer

I agree with Ross on this. While only one team wins the cup and there will be 12 teams or so trying to improve at the expense of the future I think this is the Jets time to go for it.

Everyone is worried about losing a guy like Perfetti. Yes , it would hurt, but then again what we might lose in Perfetti we don't lose in Lucious, McGroarty, Lambert, etc. ....or we keep Perfetti and lose one of the others. This scenario of course was if someone like Meier were to sign term

The bottom line is they all can't play on the Jets anyways with several of the current core like Ehlers, Connor, Lowry, Appleton, etc on longer-term contracts. Jets will also get valuable assets at next yrs trade deadline if Scheif, Dubios, etc leave. The cupboard will still be full. There is also the free agent pool at season end which includes a lot of top names that are currently being shopped.

Chevy is known for wanting term in any deal. I love the idea of getting Meier only if he would sign or alternatively somehow comes at a reasonable price. More likely , Chevy will do a deal with Arizona who has done lots of deals with the Jets in the past and has several players they might be willing to part with that have term. Schmaltz, Chychryn, Ritchie, Crouse all have term so that giving up the guys mentioned above becomes a lot more palatable.

I am not sure that any acquisition, except maybe Karlsson, will get us past the 1st round.
Chevy is in a tough spot.

does anyone else find it hilarious, this whole narrative Chevy only wants to trade for people with term? Do all the so called experts realize out of all Chevy's trades i think only one person had term when arriving? Tyler Myers. even Evander Kane and PLD both needed new contracts, Stastny and Hayes were both pending UFA's. this narrative is ridiculous.

but yes, we need to be all in this year!! look we all know PLD is gone this summer. The real question is about Sheif and Helle and to be fair, mostly Helle. if Helle doesn't sign an extension he has to be traded this summer!!! and just think about that return!!! how much do you think a team like Edmonton or Toronto would pay, even its just for one year of Helle....lets just say, more than any cost we pay at this deadline for any player. If we have to trade Helle, that could easily mean we are not in the playoffs for the next 3-4 years.

so yes, all in this year

I think go Toronto Raptors style and try to hit it out of the park, at minimum we're in line for a retool afterwards. Worst case scenario, we go scorched earth and do a full rebuild.

Pretty much every recent major trade by Chevy over the past four years had players with term or were RFA

Dillon, Schmidt, Barron ( term + RFA) , Pionk ( RFA - re-signed) , Appleton, PLD (term + RFA) , DeMelo

Bruins are now out of the trade market which makes one less competitor. IMHO the Jets' main competitors for the remaining big game names who have really good assets are the Hurricanes , Devils , Kings, and Avalanche

I'd keep Barron but add Appleton to that list. The only thing he is good at is the PK, so maybe a few 40-second stints a game. I hope he is part of whatever trade Chevy pulls.

I had a good laugh at an ESPN article this morning, with the experts speculating the Jets may get James Van Riemsdyk. That in itself seems plausible, but if it is at the cost they suggest: 2023 1st rounder + Danny Zhilkin, that seems like a GM looking to get fired type move. If you're going bargain basement hunting, I'm not sure why you'd pay a premium?

With all the UFA's/RfA's we have, really should anyone out there, not named Connor, Ehlers, Morrissey and Hellebuyck feel secure on our team at this time?

More likely than not, the big deals will come after the season's end, but who knows? Chevy is pretty methodical though, isn't he, so "likely" nothing major at this time that might rock the boat.

No JVR for me - unless he comes in a package with some dude named Konecny! 10 years ago, maybe "yes"!

I like Konecny but he is a center and the Jets really don't need another center, at least in the short term. If they did have an immediate need then I'd be all in on Dylan Larkin as a rental.

It looks like our old friend, Marko Dano, has finally found his place in the hockey world.
CZECH LEAGUE 26-20-46 in 46 games and he leads the league in scoring.

Impressive ? Maybe not so much.......a 39 year old is 2nd, and a 40 year old is 5th (Plekanec). Only 2 players under the age of 30 in the Top 10.

Not sure if they have bottles of Gatorade or Geritol behind the benches.

Yeah, I agree. I feel like JVR seems like another Kevin Hayes waiting to happen. Just too slow to find a nice fit here.

The speech I would love to hear from Chevelallseasonoff on trade deadline day:

“The price we gave up was huge no doubt. I do wish all those prospects that we traded away nothing but success. Keeping on that note, I am excited to welcome Meier and Karlsson to the Winnipeg Jets organization. I want to express my utmost confident in the core that has been developed here and I believe in this teams ability to win the cup. I think that these 2 new acquisitions are going to take us to the top!”

The speech we will most likely here from Chevelallseasonoff:

“The price was too high, I made some phone calls, blah, blah, blah…………..”
