We have to take TV ratings with a massive grain of salt. It doesn’t tell the whole story.
IE)
12% in Buffalo is 132,000
2% in LA is 360,000
I don’t think Buffalo ever moves because we are a “hockey market”
But TV ratings to show popularity is a big miss from me and will continue to be. - ImThatGuy
Buffalo is pretty much maxed out in TV ratings, and that will continue as the population declines/stays stagnant. The high TV ratings here are great for optics and a feel-good story, but as far as actual dollars and cents, they're virtually worthless.
To Hank's point "Gary Bettman, ya blew it" comment about Toronto only playing here once, the owners couldn't care less. Buffalo doesn't move the needle. They get infinitely more out of a game vs. Boston or Montreal. The only people who care about it in North America are WNY'ers, and there aren't very many of us. |

Agreed. When you do the ratings percentage, Buffalo looks great. When you start to break down those numbers, Buffalo will always be towards the bottom of that list.
Buffalo wants to act like it’s a big boy city but when it comes time to pay to keep these franchises in good standing order IE ticket prices we fret and complain it’s too expensive.
This city is very lucky to have two major sports franchises |

My issue is no NHL has survived in these smaller markets with an nba team - hubie
I think that may be because the NBA team was first and holds all the clout when it comes to arena deals. Suns didn’t really want to share the pie with Coyotes, off to (no one wants to drive that far) Glendale they went. Panthers moved up to ft lauderdale/Broward county because the Heat would’ve been the big dog sharing a new building in Miami. I think I read somewhere that arena arrangements with the NBA team in Houston would be a big hindrance to the team being successful/making money, and was a big reason moving there wouldn’t happen until that outlook changed.
And I forgot about Atlanta, I think it was a big part of the problem for the Thrashers |

Bet the Sabres on the road after scoring 1st 🤔 - Boss34
It's either a sure thing or overdue for a correction. Some weird results in there for sure.

While this is all true, there's even more to it than that. When you go to a major city, such as New York, Boston, LA, or even 2nd tier ones like Pittsburgh, Kansas City or Raleigh, you see billboards and ads paid for by the major networks (CBS, NBC, FOX and ABC) to watch their primetime shows, whether their sitcoms or reality TV. You don't get those here. Why? Because even if the entire population watched at once, advertisers still wouldn't care. They don't make money in this market. |

I was already up, I really don't sleep much. Just happened to see Bear had got another point. Just made me laugh you ripping on people about what they say about certain players and here your favorite Player can't even outscore a Defenseman and he had a 9 or 10 game head start. |

That's where the horrible irony kicks in, Tage turning into Tage means they never needed to tear down in the first place. All the deals getting kicked around are near reversals of what they already did, but worse value.
Losing Ullmark, Montour, and Sam have given the current roster absolutely nothing and they are very similar to the players they are interested in now. - Lunaion
UllMark did not want to sign here. Montour sucked here. And Sam was a cancer. Pretty sure we finished in last place with all 3 here.

That was the major reason the Buffalo Braves left. They had the better attendance and TV ratings overall, but since the Knoxes and to a lesser extent Canisius College, had the in with the city, the Braves couldn't get any weekend dates at the Aud.

Maybe we keep them separate, our bet and backing another poster eh?
I'm enjoying the bet, it's kinda funny and actually fair.

Ullmark didn't sign cause they jerked him around for 2yrs on his contract. How was Sam a cancer here, do you know that for a fact, another beautiful contract negotiations. And Montour was bad, but got jerked around here pretty good. |

Yeah, never really got that clean shot at a spot it seemed. He would fit the Whatever D System we play now with his skating abilities. |
