Hell of a play by Cates at the blue line
- ClaudeFather

He makes 5-6 little plays every game, that are subtle but speak to his hockey smarts.

Risto was on the ice as a forward for two empty netters.
- SuperSchennBros

To be fair, he hasn't been great for a long time. And overpaid for a "serviceable D guy. But Tortorella humiliated him by benching him infront of his family.

Second time this season John Tortorella has scratched a player in his "home arena" with family in attendence: Sanheim is a healthy scratch today in Calgary, where he played his junior hockey and his family has come to attend the game. Happed to Frost in Toronto in early November.

Starting lineup:

13 Kevin Hayes - 21 Scott Laughton - 74 Owen Tippett
25 James van Riemsdyk - 48 Morgan Frost - 11 Travis Konecny
44 Nicolas Deslauriers - 49 Noah Cates - 38 Patrick Brown
62 Olle Lycksell - 86 Joel Farabee - 57 Wade Allison

9 Ivan Provorov - 61 Justin Braun
45 Cam York - 55 Rasmus Ristolainen
24 Nick Seeler - 77 Tony DeAngelo

33 Samuel Ersson

- bmeltzer[79 Carter Hart]

Plus, IIRC, Torts sat Hayes against the Ranger... a game Hayes was looking forward to, I believe.

In Torts fashion though no one is now talking about how bad they’ve been in the last 4 games…the focus is on a ruined home coming….maybe Hart shouldn’t get so excited for tomorrow night after all.

I do think long term Hart may not be better then Ersson. Curious how he handles competition with a gjuy who could truly be a #1 goalie.

Cates as a third line winger is a Hockeybuzz favorite. As a 1c, not so much.

Who would have thought that Risto would be the Flyers best defenseman and Deslauriers would be the Flyers best forward!!! Take that @MJL!

I’m not sure…but Ersson was a really good goalie at 19….seemed to have year or so of growing pains…then some injuries….but was alway super talented.

Those two are putting the Flyers on the path to the Cup. Thanks goodness Fletcher won those bidding wars for those players.

Sanheim has had his head up his ass for about a month or so. He has not had a strong season. He needs to elevate his game. I guess a message is being sent but does that really work?
- MJL

Lets be honest, Sanheim deserves to be benched, but the real reason for this benching and the reason why the Flyers played 7 and 11 last game was so they can showcase Braun and Seeler in the lineup together.

Why do Tortorella put you on the ice game after game Brown? After that stupid penalty, by Tortorella logic. You should be in the pressbox next game.
