Playing a new position, and taking on heavy defensive roles. is a plus player with what, two penalties all year. is ridiculous.

But Cates is a failed experiment lol

We are trending back in the right direction! Top 5 pick here we come!

I wish we could play thw Kraken more times in a season. That would help our path towards finally getting a guy with elite talent

Cates has been a great story this year. A rookie, whom Torts has thrown a lot at. He’s one of those guys that’s going to play in this league for a long time. Obviously he doesn’t have dynamic skills but he looks like a top 9 forward.

When they finally did get the puck, the Kraken knew exactly where the Flyers were gonna go with the puck at every turn. It was pretty comical to watch.

Which leads to the Flyers archaic breakout system.

Cates is being played out of position and being used incorrectly. It is the same thing as the Frost situation in the past. Yet you label it as hypocrisy. That is what is funny.

The poor me thing with frost is really old. How he was handled was strictly on him. Not the organizations fault he got hurt. Comes up and plays with G has a hot streak, goes ice cold, you’re going down. What’s Cates ceiling as a center verse a wing? He’s done just fine at center for a rookie playing a bigger role

The poor me thing with Frost is really old is hyperbole. It wasn't strictly on him. The Flyers archaic development methods slowed his development as a player. Those such as myself who posted how Frost should be used and who he should play with, have been proven correct.

As far as Cates, on the defensive side of the puck, he is strong. He is not strong on the offensive side of the puck for where he is playing and how he is being used. The facts show that. That is not offered as a criticism of Cates. It's a criticism of the coaching staff and how they're using him. It's the same as the Frost situation, so where is the hypocrisy?

Frost and Cates being misused is on the GM. The fact they do not have a better option at center on the roster is pretty embarrassing. Torts is playing the cards he has been dealt.

I can't blame the GM for injuries to a player such as Couturier and they do have an option for center other than who they're currently playing at center. Tortorella is choosing to misuse Cates and putting his perceived needs of the team before the good of the player in my opinion.

That is letting Chuckles off the hook in my opinion. He addressed the defensive situation to cover for injuries. He could have done the same at center. He chose not too.

Tortorella choosing to play Hayes who has been a center his entire career at wing and Cates at center is on the GM?

Is the question what is Cates ceiling at center versus a wing? His ceiling at wing is higher in my opinion. His strength offensively is being first on pucks on the forecheck and crashing the net. He does not have the puck skills to play center offensively in my opinion. Cates is not nearly productive enough offensively for his usage and it's not his fault in my opinion.

Puck skills looked just fine on that setup to JVr the other night. His defensive impact is much greater at center than wing. His ceiling is higher at center, and like you love to say this is his first full year pro! His offensive numbers are just fine for a rookie. 40 points as a center that can Win matchups is far more valuable than a 45-50 point winger

LOL, referencing one play does not give the full picture. His ceiling is not higher at center. He's not a center. You're looking at it the wrong way. He is playing first line minutes with the best offensive players on the team. His scoring rate is 9th on the team in all situations and 8th among forwards at 5 on 5 play. He won't put up 40 points playing center where he'll eventually wind up. Playing in the correct position, he could develop into a 2nd line winger with high level defensive play similar to a player like Jere Lehtinen.
