They would get less for Braun than a year ago but they may do him a favor and accept whatever they would get (late round pick) because he's been a good a soldier for the organization. I could see them getting a latter round offer on Patrick Brown. There is definitely interest in Nick Seeler but I don't know if the offers are/will be to a level where they'd move his inexpensive contract with a year left on it unless someone offers an asset overpay.

That would be poor management. Next season they should have Zamula and Attard on the team, with Ginning and Wylie as depth options, and the possibility of Andrae coming over. And if they really need a cheap third pairing dman for 23-24 to go along with their super expensive third pairing dmen Angelo & Risto, they can sign one in free agency.

If they get offered a 3rd round or better pick, which I don't think they will. I would keep Seeler. It would be difficult to do better at that price point.

Feel like MAF has always been overrated

I’ve always seen him as inconsistent and unreliable. He’s capable of superior play but has his share of bad goals. Too bad he had 3 last night.

That last playoff, or maybe the year before, for the Wild, he had a couple of back breakers

interesting as this goes against your previous argument about collecting as many assets as possible in rebuilding.

if an asset is offered for seeler imo you take it he is easily replaceable and the position could be used to elevate a younger player.

Imo that gaffe against MTL in 2020-21 was the turning point of that Series.

i don't understand why they would feel a need to retain seeler if an asset is offered to acquire him. Originally he was brought in as a 7th or 8th defenseman. He could be easily replaced with another tweener contract or a younger player.

would it just be he is signed for cheap for one more year?

Because Chuck is a loyal guy. He drafted Seeler and now he just wants to make sure he qualifies for an NHL pension.

Seeler is not a player that is easily replaceable. He gives really solid value for a player with a 775,000 cap hit. That's not that easy to find. Veterans that might sign on the cheap normally want to do so to play for a good team. You certainly don't want a young kid sitting in the press box. Seeler is an ideal 6/7 defenseman on a team. If all you're going to get is a 5th or a middling prospect. Might as well keep him. Cheap decent depth players is what a team like the Flyers, who should be rebuilding need.

every team has them. they are available during free agency. assets are the rebuilding need.

seeler here may be blocking a spot for one of those younger kids.

Torts called the shot on Ersson. He really, really, really wanted him back in the NHL and elevated over Sandström. He got his way.

Yes, I think they'd have interest. No inside track on him, however, apart from the Flyers heavily scouting and often drafting or signing USNTDP experienced players.

On a related note, I watched the Beanpot. I thought Hunter McDonald was solid. I didn't know, until it was noted on the broadcast of the Harvard/Northeastern game, that McDonald is 2nd in the NCAA in blocked shots this season. Whether you like or hate valuing blocked shots heavily, it's something that resonates with many coaches.

After last night’s loss where they had a tired Avs team back on their heels, I think there is some desperation for Guerin. Imo a 2nd would be a win for the Flyers. I just don’t think JVR will thrive with no one getting him the puck.

Minnesota Wild management yesterday:

How do we get out of this scoring drought??? That's it, we'll scratch our best offensive defenseman!!! Brilliant.

Today Seeler would be the 4th best defensive defenseman on the Wild. He’d fall right behind Brodin, Spurgeon and Middleton and just ahead of the next guy who gets $6 Mil.

That's what happens when a coach is more competent of putting together a winning team then the GM is.

Everything Evason tries is blowing up. The Wild were 12-3-2 when they decided to sit Dumba for poor play. They are 3-7-1 since then. Goligoski replaces Addison and makes a mistake on the 1st goal compounded by MAF letting in a soft goal.

I'd take a 3rd or 4th round pick for Seeler. He'll be blocking some of our young prospects from getting ice time next season anyway.

He shouldn't block any young prospects. He's a really good fit for a 7th defenseman and a fill in in case any young player's falter.
There are other players who are blocking younger players.

If he's a 7th defenseman there's at least a half a dozen of them every year in free agency. Take the pick and move on if he's not a core piece.
