Pens are just too Jekyl and Hyde. Not enough consistency, and poor support scoring (bottom 6 and dmen).

Good reason to be down and out if you went into this season thinking the Pens would be a contender lol.

17th in GF, 17th in GA. They are an average hockey team.

I haven't come across a single person who thought or expected this about this season haha.

Also, they were top 5 in that stuff for two months (November to December) when mostly healthy, not everyone healthy but mostly, with starting goalie amongst the healthy. Crazy to me they're even middle of the pack with the way they've played a lot of nights, mostly because of massive holes in lineup, since it turned 2023.

Every team faces injuries. It isn't a valid excuse.

Ive seen you use the Wings injuries an "excuse" this season. 4 of top 6 out or some poop.

Injuries are not an excuse, they're a reason. When a team is missing two and three of their top defensemen, or all of their RD's, plus their allstar goalie at the same time while having a back up who has a -6 GSAA its going to be a major reason, man.

Furthermore with injuries; things aren't always all hunky dory when a player, or players, come back from really long layoffs. Sometimes it takes time for them and the team to adjust and synchronize ...sometimes players are never the same again....Bluey looks to be in that category but perhaps its too premature to say for sure.

That is not what you expected, or hoped, when this season was about to start/getting under way haha. I believe you even said they might make playoffs and Pens wouldn't.

Its like saying Sid and Geno not taking part in the 2011 playoffs at all wasnt a reason the Pens lost to Tampa in 7 in first round....just an excuse hahaha

I most certainly texted Boyd in July that I had them at 85-90 points. Don't recall posting what I had them at on HB

If they didn't think they were going to be competitive, then there's no reason to be down and out lol

couldn't find that about the Pens but you definitely said you had the Wings at 85-90 when we were talking about JFresh's predictions. JFresh had them at 104. Wings at 94.

Not all injuries are created equally lol. A star player being sidelined for the season isnt the same as a 4th liner sidelined for the season.

I think a lot of fans use injuries as an excuse too much, but saying every team faces injuries is like saying dont use your cancer diagnosis as an excuse for your poor health because everyone gets sick.

Who is the star player that has missed the season for the pens?

I never said one has. Merely an example of why that take makes no sense.

Funny to me how down and out some fans get around here, and other places, when the Pens win against a bottom dweller but probably didn't deserve to. However, they see no light or good in all the times the Pens outplayed better opponents and deserved to win, but didn't this season. Both situations are met with a similar gloom and doom.

Pens need to tighten up their game, much like they needed to in October and did. There's still over a 1/3 of the season left. So much time to do so...and perhaps they don't...but this team is better than a lot of you think it is.

- MattStrat

The most disappointing thing is that I believe there’s ways to restructure the lines, forwards especially to be more competitive but everyone just gets slotted based on cap hit.

This is one of the rare occurrences that we agree...well, I'm not so sure it's cap hit slotting, as it's more so vets and favorites, but I do think they could at least try mixing up the lines a lot.

Jarry has missed a load of time this season. When healthy, overall, he's been top 3 for most metrics for goalies this season. He had a rough patch in October but otherwise has been a fn stud.

Perhaps it wasn't you saying it but I do recall sort of agreeing, in response, saying I could see the Pens scratching and clawing just for a wildcard this season and the Wings would be one of the teams potentially beating them to one of those spots.

I think a lot of people here, outside of here and in the hockey world expected the Wings to be better this season....perhaps they would of been if not for F load of injuries... 🤷

Currently on pace for 89 points. That is quite the improvement from 74.

So just to make sure Im understanding, if the Penguins go into the playoffs without Crosby and Malkin, the team should have the same expectations as the team going into the playoffs without Teddy Blueger and Jeff Carter?
