From a team perspective yes. From a Player/ Agent viewpoint no. It places these guys in UFA on complete downside of career.

I do agree with your term. Just do not see Players accepting that unless money structure in contract changes.

It's bad for the teams and bad for the fans. I get players do not want to move around but moves are exciting for the fans. The NHL has the worst offseason be far of any sport. You cannot have many teams so locked they cannot make moves. You no longer see those shakeup type trades just to change the mix. I'm not even talking about blockbuster. It's a huge event now when there is any type of meaningful trade.

Isles giving away points to teams they should beat while they're chasing Washington and Ovechkin is away from the team for awhile is completely pathetic

Garth was so good at fantasy hockey and was afraid to make moves as an NHL GM.

As long as certainty is defined as a 19% chance of making the playoffs.

I’ll take 19% after last night.

It’s incredible the opportunities this team has in front of it to get some points and they just crap all over them. Two OT’s with two consecutive PP’s to beat two teams that are battling for Bedard and they can’t finish one of them off to grab the two points. It literally makes me hate them.

Incredible. To be fair they are 4-1-2 in their last seven games but the effort just isn’t there. Watching this team malfunction and (frank) up countless opportunities against garbage pail teams night in and night out is tiring. Have to find something else to do with my free time.

It’s this season, whereby said team would presumably be going for the cup, next season which would be a similar scenario and a third season if need be, buy him out
- kindlyrick

This season isn’t the problem. If he was an UFA or had another year then, yeah, Palmieri would be on the table.

No team is trading for him. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Considering we keep our focus against the better teams versus the “weaker” teams that could be a good thing.

Having said that, trying to guess which team will come out of the tunnel every game is an exercise in futility.

Makes me wish we were as bad as them over the course of the season and had a shot at him

They might really need to take Barzal off the top PP unit. I think teams have caught on and will happily just let him twirl around with the puck looking for the perfect pass, knowing he can't/won't shoot. Or at least move him down lower instead of having him off to the side and up top

Not like there's a ton of good options to replace him with, but at least Palmieri would shoot the puck.

Yep. Between Barzal and Dobson you could subtract a minute from each PP from them sitting motionless holding the puck or passing back and forth to each other. Neither keeps the opposing PK moving and literally helps the opposing team just about every time we get a man advantage. I really think our PP sucks directly because of them more often then not.

Barzal's biggest contribution to the PP is his entries into the zone. The Isles don't have other options who can do it as well as Barzal, and they are more likely to get stood up at the blue line.

Yeah I’m not advocating for pulling him off the PP but I’m all for doing something different instead of watching this horse crap every game. I will say I think it’s more a team wide issue between the ears then any one players fault. They are all contributors to this garbage with varying degrees of guilt.

Sometimes watching them sleepwalk thru the power play, it looks like they are all tired and the power play provides an opportunity to rest up a bit. There's just no sense of urgency.

It really looks like that John. I mentioned Low energy with this team yesterday.
