According to sources, the Rangers targeted Tarasenko - a player they long coveted - and decided to go for it after feeling the asking prices for Timo Meier and Patrick Kane were too high.

Also sounds like New York had some concerns over Kane’s hip injury.

It doesn’t sound like the Rangers got to asking price point of discussions with Blackhawks - because ball is still in Patrick Kane’s court coming to Chicago with what he wants to do.

But the NYR didn’t want to wait on him, and also had concerns about his hip.

Mollie Walker reported similar. I think Meier was at the top of the list.

There’s 0% chance we can resign him I suppose. Even though he wants to be here

Meier's at the top of everyone's list, but that's a big, expensive piece and not just a one year thing.

Yeah no shot. Just not enough money, because the NHL is designed to be the poor of North American professional sports.

Devils gonna get him unfortunately for all of us wonder if it happens soon too, seeing Hughes will be out a bit

Lafferty or Motte at deadline. Unless they find a third line winger.

Then who's the LD beyond this year? Jones, Robertson and Harpur. That's risky.

Nah, Mikkola is bad all on his own.

Devils don't have the cap space to do it, and San Jose can't take back enough contracts to fit him in.

Happy with Mikkola, but preferred Maatta, Kulikov or Walman.
Barbashev would have been a great add, but no cap space right now. Lafferty or Motte or Bjugstad at deadline for fourth line.

You have to figure Barbashev was discussed. But I think 3RW was third in the pecking order to upgrade in Drurys mind

Motte does seem like a logical pick up now. You get him, with goodrow and either Cuyyle, or Gauthier and the 4th line has some bite to it

Could have just made that deal originally. And saved a lot of time.

We wouldn’t have had cap space and they wouldn’t have retained 50% for 2 seasons. I also forgot to add mikkola but that’s a lot to give up for 30 games + playoffs unless we win it all. Much easier to swallow than before though. Could be a deadly first line
