Nobody said spend to the cap, but don't take on fake money to get to the floor either
- Buff36

spent 1.7 mil on vinny
spent 2.75 mil on lyubushkin
spent 1.8 mil on comrie

bishop 5 mil

if you moved that 5 mi to a different position

what could you get for a top 9 guy for 6.7 mil on 1 year

or 7.75 mil for a d man for 1 year

or 6.8 mil on a goalie for 1 year

Because they didn’t spend to the cap this year, they never will. Haven’t you heard ?
- Swedish_Jesus

We’re 2-3 years away from being a team that spends to the cap and would benefit from Tage/Cozens discounts. So I’m more worried about getting to that point before I’m going to celebrate savings that isn’t helping this team anytime soon

What does Tage make if they waited till this offseason to extend him ?

Like ffs they saved 5-6M in cap per year by signing Tage a year early and by not bridging Cozens.

If you think Cozens is good now, how about in a couple of years when he adds another 15-20 pounds and Quinn/Peterka are breaking out in their own right ?

Drafting and salary cap management are the two most important ingredients to a cup contender and how many teams have the U23 talent and salary cap flexibility the Sabres have ?

Peterka and Kulich would go top 15 in redrafts.

Ostlund looks like he can be a solid middle 6 player in a few years.

Devon Levi is having another incredible year

- Swedish_Jesus

I think it’s having enough good players to compete for the cup. Or just circumventing the cap when you need to as the NHL basically allows it.

Again, bravo on the cap savings. It’s doing absolutely nothing for the Sabres today, tomorrow or next year

Let's move the goalpost a bit!

3 years left on Tuch, 4 years on Skinner. Have a solid window in that timeframe that they need to take advantage of. Lot of ELC's to keep costs under control. Window doesn't close after that, but the cap advantages dry up.

If they just pocket the savings for the next 3 years, it would be sad.

Teams don't get opportunities like this very often when things fall nicely into place Cap Wise Player Wise with contracts signed and such a deep prospect pool. Plus and this is big- They Are Already A Young Team.

Just have this feeling that someone somewhere is saying Meier would complicate a Tuch extension.

Pretty sure its Connor Murphy or bust. Trigger probably would've been pulled already, but he's dinged at the moment.

Worry about that 4yrs from now, at that point some of these players will be getting traded so some of next prospects can take there rightful spots. Couple more good drafts and they should be able to keep a fluid stream of prospects through the system for 7 to 10yrs

Part of that is not taking prospects for granted. Still too early to grade any of KA's drafting.

Very much so, comes with making decisions on certain players that aren't a part of the future. Can Adams do that.

Luke Schenn is my guess. Or someone around that caliber. Someone that we'll go meh and then try to convince ourselves it's a big brain deal and great value but really it's just a minor upgrade if that.
- Zschalberg

He’s a rental. So that isn’t happening

Hope, its a powerful thing.

Solid spot, on a solid, very young team.

Guess we'll see

I was told the hawks called the Sabres about Kane today or yesterday after taresenko deal.

My guess is the hawks can’t find a dance partner due to injuries (hip injury) and him playing like garbage

Currently with my source. So that’s fresh

I wouldn't either. Heard they talked with Chicago a few times. Heard about Murphy awhile ago, but he Likes it in Chicago, so who knows.

Kanes family is also here and he plays playing in front of his dad.

But yeah that doesn’t mean we are trading for him.

So who knows is right

I think McCabe for a 2nd makes too much sense at this point.
- BeadyEyedDouche

Not directed solely at you Beady, several have posted about acquiring McCabe...so don't take 8t personally.

$4m for a 3rd pair LhD?
Way too easy pass.

Down in Englewood now and headed up to Tampa on the 23rd to watch the Sabres.

Can anyone point me to a place for dinner and drinks before the game

Premature to say the least.

Since they signed a bunch of low risk deals though that wont be here past next year, they can afford to make a big splurge next year or the year after.
