US just shot down another object flying in Alaskan Airspace 26 minutes ago, looks to be another balloon.

How would y’all feel if the only deadline move made is announcing the signing of Johnson who joins once his season is finished?
- riptheguard

Completely fine. I'd like a move or two but if the cost is too much there is nothing wrong with rolling with what we got. The only thing that might make me pause is if a guy like Murphy goes for something I wouldn't mind giving up (e.g. a second).

This is what I expect to happen. I want the big move, I'm ready to go all in with a Meier and make the playoffs. If we play Boston in round one I think it could be fun as hell even if I don't expect anything more than a smackdown.

But Adams doesn't strike me as the burn it all and let's go kinda GM. He's going to be patient, sign a guy like Johnson who can hopefully come in and get a role, and depend on growth from within. The same will probably be said for next season as well. Only UFAs next year are Anderson, Okposo, Girgensons and as much as this board and I would hate it I could see them signing at least one of those three and potentially even two of them again. I just don't think you make a guy captain for a year and then let him walk the next.

If a prospect forces his way onto the team next training camp that'll be the only real big difference between this year and next. A Kulich/Ostlund/Savoie could take a spot but only if they truly look ready. Mittlestadt is loved by Granato, he's staying. Jost should be back. Quinn and Peterka have hit walls but the plan will be to run them again as 2nd year guys. Maybe it works and they're awesome. Maybe it's similar to this year.

I love it how you went from "If you aren't competing for the cup, you should tank for last place" to fawning over a more than likely 18-19th place finish
- sbroads24

I’m not fawning over an 18th or 19th place finish.

All I’m saying is that whether they make the playoffs or not, has nothing to do with the long term trajectory of the franchise.

Getting our teeth kicked in by Boston or Carolina or finishing 19th makes no difference to me this year.

To you though, I know it would be an absolute catastrophe if we don’t get to play an extra two weeks.

Even if Adams made the most optimal moves he could make, they are not ready yet.

That does not mean he hasn’t done some incredible things. Having your top 2 Centers signed for $14.2M is playing chess.

There's absolutely 0 excuse IMO, for not using one of the 3 2nds we have on a deadline player.

Even a 2nd and 3rd. Murphy or a good middle to bottom 6 forward could be had for that price.

Show the league you are interested in winning. It will help retain and add guys down the road (waiving NTC UFA's etc)

campbel is 8-2-0 in his last 11 games with a 2.24 GAA

How about the ones prior ?

Would you be happy with 5 more years of Campbell ?

He isn’t even the best goalie on the Edmonton roster

You called the GM, who is on a current trajectory to barely miss the playoffs (your doomsday scenario) a top 5 GM because he signed two good players to good contracts.

In what universe would him making a good solid trade and breaking a decade+ long drought, going a long way in helping rehab the Sabres image to other players around the league, not be infinitely more impressive/important?

It does matter to me, though. Watching this team for the last 12 years has sucked, going to games this year has sucked. I bought the quarter seasons and the first 4 games I went to we got smacked by poop teams. I go to the Carolina game and there's 13000 people there because losing has sucked. Does it change what happens in the future for the team? Probably not. But it matters to not suck anymore. Reward me for still spending my money and time caring about a team that for 12 years has done little in return.

They're saying this one was much smaller, the size of a small car instead of multiple school buses, and it was at a lower altitude posing a possible risk to aviation

It should matter to everyone.

Anyone who isn't completely sick of looking at mock drafts once January 1st rolls around has Stockholm syndrome.

They have 4-5 players having ridiculously good years.. Reward them

If anything this is the type of trade I would expect. A Wayne Simmonds type deal.

Agreed, completely. It takes two to make a trade but it would be pretty upsetting to see a player like him go elsewhere for a return that we should have paid.

the players, coaches, gm, owners, and the fans disagree

and you never know what happens if you get in the dance and your goalie gets hot

preds were a 7th seed and made it to the finals to play the pens a few years ago

Yep, and especially when you're close and a solid move could get you there.

If Adams stays away from the big fish
Maybe we should be looking at players on teams that will aquire them. Opening up some cap space

Luke Schenn is my guess. Or someone around that caliber. Someone that we'll go meh and then try to convince ourselves it's a big brain deal and great value but really it's just a minor upgrade if that.

Unfortunately it was rumored that we won't be doing this. Not sure why - I wouldn't want to help an eastern conference team but there is no reason we wouldn't take a guy on an expiring contract from the west.

I can't imagine it being Schenn. He is more attractive to teams at the cap because he is on an expiring contract.
