Carters job their is to cover the front and not let McKinnon make any passes to the slot. It wouldn’t have mattered if it was Crosby, Mckinnions scoring that goal. - Grinder47
That’s not wrong, the issue I have is Carter didn’t even realize he was there until it was too late, it wasn’t a decision he made to just stay there and cover the net, he had no idea what was going on at that point, granted it all happens in a split second.

I was downtown for the game tonight and I can 100% see why attendance is lower. It is a nightmare down by the arena with all of the construction. It's a mess to get there, mess to park, and a mess to leave. |

Carter was covering his man. I just watched it again the second Carter drops down he opens up a one timer. Petry chasing behind the net was the real break down. Can’t chase players like McKinnon behind the net. Jake should probably stop taking selfish lazy penalties, he’s really the one at blame. |

F'n right I'll take this vs the champs who'd won 7 of their last 8

It was good execution by Colorado. Pittsburgh was playing man to man, which is normal in a four-on-four situation. Colorado set up a play where MacKinnon was alone one-on-one on the right side of the ice. Pettersson has two choices, force MacKinnon to his weak side or force him wide. Getting beat clean isn't one of them, but that's what happened.
Petry followed his man behind the net, another no-no. Let him go, pick him up when he circles back. No need to chase.
Yes, Carter was covering his man. What he wasn't doing was having his 'head on a swivel'. When not one but two defensemen got beat, he needed to collapse on the puck carrier.
Holding Colorado to one goal was impressive. Overall, the Pens played decent. DeSmith played, let's just say he stopped a lot of pucks. He certainly didn't look good. Unless you think all that pirouetting he did was impressive.

So expected goals were 6.78. I was robbed. Do you think I can get my money back. |

Depends. What's the current exchange rate of expected goals to actual goals? |

I don't know. Might be a good idea to learn that before I bet again.

I'd like to see a study for all games league wide that compares expected goals to actual goals. If they're off by more than 10%, I'd say the current "expected goals" formula needs to be either discredited or redone.
Edit:
So I actually did this for last season (using vhttps://www.moneypuck.com/teams.htm). I know some of the GF and GA were off by a little by checking with nhl.com, but only by 1-2 in some cases, so close enough for a 1312 game sample.
The average %difference for GF vs. xGF and GA vs. xGA is 1.4%, which I'd call pretty darn good.
The largest difference in GF vs. xGF was Minnesota (21.7% above) and the smallest was Anaheim (0%).
The largest difference in GA vs. xGA was Columbus (25.5% below) and the smallest was San Jose (0%).
The best combined xG vs G team was St. Louis (23.6% above) and the worst was New Jersey (22.9% below).
The Penguins were 180 GF vs. 184 xGF (2.2% under) and 154 GA vs. 160 xGA (3.8% above).
One final note: 9 teams whose goalies received a Vezina vote all had a positions GA vs. xGA with an average of 7.5%. |

He has to be so aggressive to fill up the holes he creates by making himself so small. He had 3 or more shots ring of his helmet that were at chest height.
I'll take that performance but it doesn't seem sustainable with the way he plays.
Also thanks to Mack for missing the net a few times on the OT PP.
