Overall, the data showed that the three sports with the highest concussion rates are: men's soccer, with 10.4 concussions per 10,000 exposed athletes. Women's soccer suspended at 8.19 per 10,000 athletes. Men's hockey at 7.69 per 10,000 athletes.

I'm not saying I wan that, but logically you just have to remove the repeated act of violent hitting. I don't see how you eliminate the brain injuries without that.

In football- head injuries can be reduced by TAKING AWAY helmets

Hockey too- Players would be much less likely to put themselves in harms way when they DO NOT have a helmet

(frank) it man. Seatbelts too. People would be way less likely to put themselves in harms way if they didn’t have a sissy ass seatbelt protecting them

I was 5 rows off the glass that side and to see him skate at the TV timeout was nuts... To see and surf with him occasionally now is really nice that he had no long term effects from it..

The way worse cheap shot was the one he took from that Scumbag Suter.

Huge Kariya fan. Have an original customized first year purple Ducks jersey with his name and number. That hit was devastating and he has no recollection of the goal he scored.

I'll never understand the hit Kariya. Like that was penalty then too.
- tomburton99

Those hits weren't illegal per the rules at the time. Dirty and predatory, yes. But also legal.

As for hitting in football and hockey...sadly, it's a known risk they are taking when these guys sign these contracts. Consider it kind of like combat pay; you're entering into an agreement where your safety can't be fully guaranteed, and you are compensated for an agreed-upon amount.

I'm not saying I don't feel for anyone whose quality of life is altered by head injuries. But at the same time, nowadays, these players are aware of the risks and no one if forcing them to play hockey or football.

I do think Trouba is trying to get in their heads and "hurt" them. What I mean by that is Stevens seemed to relish knocking a player out of the game and causing a serious injury. That isn't Trouba at all, at least not how I see it.
- JRR1285

That's exactly it. He wants to instill fear, not injury.

Because he was dirty.
Best part was Kariya coming back and scoring, although that wouldn't happen today.
Kariya would have been in concussion protocol.
