Would you do these deals?
-Kravtsov for Jeannot
-Lafferty for Gauthier and Blais?
Cuylle - Lafferty - Jeannot is a no joke 4th line. - Slimtj100
I dont know why Chicago would want either of Blais or Gauthier, Im sure they want draft picks

It's still not really an accurate measure of anything, in either direction. He could be playing against other teams' 4th lines who are completely incapable of scoring. He could be a terrible penalty killer that lets up a PP goal half the time he touches the ice on the PK. - eichiefs9
if your goalie gives up a poop goal, and you get a minus for it, its very irritating

Idk I was just looking, they don’t have many guys under contract next season
Gauthier could be top 6 for them |

I think it’s relative to the team. It’s far from a be all end all stat, but if u have a team that MOST of the players are a +10, +12 etc, and then a few guys that are -10, I think that’s something to look at. If everyone is in the same category I pay less attention to it. Buts it’s definitely a stat I keep an eye on. |

What’s ur reasoning - nyrangers9479
It's presented with absolutely zero context and doesn't account for the PP or PK
Who's better:
- a first line winger that finishes the season with 92pts and a +2 rating and averages 21min/game while consistently playing against other teams' top talent
or
- a 3rd liner winger who plays 16 minutes a night against bottom 6 players and finishes with 39pts and a +8 rating |

Gauthier passed through waivers without getting claimed
when we were selling, we didn't want crap players, we wanted draft picks, and Im sure Chicago is looking for them too

look at Johnny Gaudreau, he was a +64 last year and now he's a -16 this year
its all about circumstance

Yes, that's part of the reason it's not a reliable indicator of anything. It doesn't take into account a whole host of variables

There's another good example of something where a variable isn't taken into consideration: "The Islanders are tied for a wildcard spot" sounds promising. Until you realize that the Sabres and Penguins have 3 and 4 games in hand on them, respectively - eichiefs9
That’s the kind of team (isles) Boston should fear tho, if they fear anyone. Older grizzly veteran team like them. Defensive struggle all series. |

Frederic is actually towards the upper/middle in +/- on his team. Orielly is LEADING his team with a -28, id say that’s not so great. U can’t compare 2 guys from 2 different teams. But u can compare them to players on their own team, that have the same goalie for whoever is on the ice. |

U were saying they could be a bad penalty killer tho and let up a goal every time their on the ice, implying that it counted. |

It does count against you if you on the ice for a penalty killer. You don't get the + if your on the power play. |
