It does count against you if you on the ice for a penalty killer. You don't get the + if your on the power play. - tomburton99

Frederic is actually towards the upper/middle in +/- on his team. Orielly is LEADING his team with a -28, id say that’s not so great. U can’t compare 2 guys from 2 different teams. But u can compare them to players on their own team, that have the same goalie for whoever is on the ice. - nyrangers9479
Why can't you compare guys from different teams?
But I will entertain your requirements anyway. Robert Bortuzzo is a +2 and Ryan O'Reilly is a -28 |

U were saying they could be a bad penalty killer tho and let up a goal every time their on the ice, implying that it counted. - nyrangers9479
Yes. As in "if Luke Schenn is a +2 but is on the ice for 4000 PPGA per year, his +/- doesn't account for that at all" |

Ya, so Orielly is having a poop year is what that tells me |

Many people need them in their daily lives. Not just high contact sports. |

Schenn is -27
Krug is -26
Kyrou is -25
Parayko is -21
Tarasenko is -18
Leddy/Faulk are -11
The entire core of the team is having a poop year, because they're a bad team. That most certainly doesn't mean Bortuzzo is having a better year than any of them.
Bortuzzo averages around 11 minutes a night. Every single player I mentioned is averaging between 18-24 minutes a night and playing against better players than the Blues put Bortuzzo out against, exposing them to a much greater chance of being on the ice for an ES/SHG against. And those players that get significantly more ice time also spend more time on the ice while Jordan Binnington continues to fail in his ability to stop a beach ball. |

While the team is bad, their goaltending is also one of the worst tandem's in the league. Combined. -9.8 goals saved above expectations.

Take the Rangers
Fox +25 Lindgren +24 Chytil +17 Zib +15 Schneider +11, that’s our 5 best +/- this year so far, and I’d say none of them are a defensive liability and all having pretty good years.
Trouba -8 Trocheck-7 Panarin -4
That’s our 3 worst, and based on every single person on this blog this year, I’d say these 3 have been the 3 drawing the most criticism of their play.
Again, no stat is the be all end all, but I think it’s a stat that’s over looked by many. |

Kakko is a +9...are you implying he's having a better season than Panarin, who has more than twice as many points than him? |

Would you do these deals?
-Kravtsov for Jeannot
-Lafferty for Gauthier and Blais?
Cuylle - Lafferty - Jeannot is a no joke 4th line. - Slimtj100
I don't think this happens, but if it did ---- it would please me greatly.... |

No, I’m not saying the higher the +/- u are the better the player you are. But Kakko has been on the ice for 9 MORE goals FOR than against, while Panarin has been on the ice 5v5 for 4 MORE goals than FOR. So I’d say Panarin likely doesn’t care about as much of the defensive side of things which is true. |

At even strength
And if you're not saying that it's a measure who is a better/worse player, what exactly does the stat measure? What is the point of it? |

Labanc is a nice target for RW (half retained). Maybe a plan C or D, but a cheaper alternative as far as assets leaving |

I’m thinking a Vatrano type splash instead of the bigger name. I’m not sure Labancs shot tho. But NY kid is cool about him |

Measures your teams relative success 5v5 while ur on the ice. Panarin 5v5 has been terrible imo this year. 3v3 or on the PP he’s been great, but there’s been way to many lapses in his play at 5v5 that have been very frustrating. Kakko on the other hand is constantly back checking and working his ass off in the defensive zone, which reflects with his +9.
Panarin has 32 pts 5v5
Kakko has 22 pts 5v5
Panarin has been on the ice for 36 goals against
Kakko has been on the ice for 13 goals against. |

Something to be said for this…and I’m not trying to start a piss war either. Please 🙏🏻
But Patrick Kanes linemates (currently on daily faceoff) for this evening are, Tyler Johnson and the immortal Jason D!ckinson.
Not exactly Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin
For gods sake it bleeps Richardenson 🙄 |
