But Boston needs him to play Center????
- corduroy

Not this year, but in the future yes. My guess is Boston gets Hayes at the deadline with the Flyers covering $2.6M in salary and getting back a 3rd round pick. Boston uses Hayes at win this season since they need a good 3rd line winger, and then next year move him back to center.

Ek is saying his sources are saying the Flyers are seriously interested in Boeser.
- Minnyhock

How do they make the cap space for that? In a past post I outlined the Bruins cap picture and showed how difficult it would be for them to fit in 4.5M in the future. Do you really believe they will jump through hoops and use whatever little cap space they have to trade for Hayes. Whom you posted earlier today, that sucks at center?

Boston, the top team in the league, with all of the other players available at the trade deadline on expiring contracts, are going to put their eggs in the Hayes basket?

I could see it much more likely they trade for Ryan O'reilly. Almost the same cap hit, a better player (IMO) and an upcoming UFA.

O'Reilly is not a native of the area!

Interesting thoughts. I wonder how much of wanting to make the money or feel like fan service played a part in keeping the band together in Pitts? Maybe it has to do with keeping Crosby's final years competitive?

We know Washington has said they will always be competitive while Ovie plays.

A guy like Crosby, who’s led his team to 3 Cups and will be a first ballot inductee into the HoF has earned the right to have his team go for it each and every year of his career.

Agreed, good point but he can be sent to another team where they can go for it. A player like that deserves a say.

Yep, he just shortened it to "The Stepfords" over the years.

It became very apt. But I think lately it has started to change. The Flyers rank 27th in attendance capacity this season so things ARE changing with the fans.

Charlie O will never be invited to the Flyers executive Christmas Party again. Fletcher must loathe those moments when his caller ID says it’s Charlie on the phone!

If he wanted to go somewhere else at this point in his career, Im sure they’d move him. But there is, at least to me, something special about a hall of fame player playing his entire career for one team.

I don't disagree but I think it's inevitable that the Pens are going to slowly fade away. Maybe they have another run in them but it's not likely.

Oh no doubt, but you live through it and when Crosby retires, you blow the rest up and rebuild.

Is that what they mean by a player that checks all the boxes?

Because the Wild are in the mix. Guerin wants a feel good story of bringing him home. Whoever requires less salary retention wins Brock. Come on Chuck!

Hey, we agree! The Pens are cooked and there's nothing Hexy can do about it. Them and the Caps are on their last legs as true contenders.

Lots of elite talent falls outside of the top 5….sure a lot of the real studs come from the obvious very top of the draft…but the really good teams, the really good franchises find pieces from all around the draft board….they develop guys and stick with them…case in point Boston….their 3 top guys Marchand, Bergeron and Pastrnak…all out side the top 20!!!
You would think as a Flyer fan you would realize a top 5 pick might also get you nothing. Wasn’t that long ago. Everyone wants a quick fix…

- landros 2

Dallas had some some VERY strong drafting happening. I'm impressed with their scouts and how they seem to hit on a lot of their draft picks. They have w good thing going down there...I wish we had scouts like they do in Dallas
