I don’t believe it would be but what would be worse is the goals against. I’m fine with favoring the defensive side for developing goalies. How many high offensive players are they really stifling? Hayes and TK are having good offensive production years. As a team, I think they are scoring to the top of their capabilities. - NC Flyers Fan
Goals against could be worse but goal production could rise. It's not about stifling other offensive players. It's about what is best for Cates. |

I think what this really says is that Torts is officially running the team at this point. Chuckles is incompetent and Scott knows NOTHING about the game of hockey. They found their hockey guy to run the show and get the kind of players that he relishes. - Phillywhiteout
Bad leaders, this organization has many, lead from behind. They don’t have the leadership skills or the courage to lead from the front.
I like what Torts is doing with this team. He needs more talent but he definitely has this player accountable to play hard! He’s not just holding the young players accountable like several recent coaches have. I hope he stays long term but most others in management and ownership can leave!! |

Like I said, I think Cates gets an opportunity to expand his toolbox. It would definitely be worse for the goalies and growth to be getting blown out in the losses instead of being within striking distance. I actually like this better for development, and I just don’t think they lose more the other way. Losing more really has never been their objective, and I am fine with that. The weird contracts, traded draft picks, odd selections, lack of team building within development….not so much (at all). |

Did you hear the broadcast talking about how they may rethink what happens with JVR because of the way he is mentoring the kids?
I almost lost it. - MBFlyerfan
And you damn well know they were told to say that |

Cates can't expand the toolbox with the opportunity. He does not have the skills and talent to play center offensively.

Once again, you made this statement from the beginning, and we shall see. Not going to be able to tell until he gets behind a much better center in the depth chart. I think it makes sense to give him the opportunity. We’ll see if they get a decent form of Coots back or somehow manage to get a 1C elsewhere or over time Gauthier becomes 1C. I’m not going to write off Cates abilities to develop, not into a 1C of course, but maybe a 3C. |

I think I’d honestly be the Flyers over the Islanders in their current situations. Flyers at least have a slim chance of turning things around with 3, potentially 4, draft picks in the upcoming years. - ClaudeFather
I mean Lou at least picked a direction with his team. He decided he should push for the playoffs and did so. That's better than floundering in the middle with mixed messages. Hopefully when it fails he or someone else will pick a rebuild direction.

Let's cut the childish back and forth before it gets too far away from discussing the hockey and current topics of the day. Who cares about Andy Macdonald who isn't even on the team? |

Isles fate is signed, stamped, and delivered. Worst spot to be in hockey. Flyers have a chance of coming out of this |

he said it, except it. go back to Bill's game day blog against the 3rd caps game during the 14-15 season.
guess 2 people cant have a discussion about a former flyer. Frowned upon. amazing what can and cant be said. |

but yet he has 22 point and is a plus 5 so far as a rookie in a new role. you champion frost a lot. he has 25 points and is minus 4.
not saying he has the same puck skills as frost, but he has been a pleasant surprise this year, especially with the adjustment to center on the fly. and is better defensively as well.

It doesn’t make sense. Get rid of JVR who brings most of his value on the PP and bring in another guy with term who does his best work on the PP. Save some cap though. $7 Mil vs $6.65 Mil.

That's fair. I can just respect Lou picking a direction. If he picked to rebuild I'd also have respected it.
