Well we’re now, officially, the worry about it later club so I’m guessing that’s exactly what we’ll do.

Well now that I said everything else that I said, they'll probably go the Cizikas route and give him $3M/year for 6 years

Maybe, but Lou seems like he's prepared to make some tough decisions that may be unpopular with the team to keep a "contender" running in the new building. I'm not so sure they're going to see Bailey as a big part of the future, especially when the money they'd allocate to him could be utilized much more efficiently on investing in more scoring

This. He’s clearly acknowledged and identified that as a need with the Horvat trade. I really see him trying to find a way to get tarasenko here as well. Maybe in the off-season it’ll actually happen can’t see him finding a way right now.

We shall see. I honestly score it 60 he stays, 40 he leaves at this point. They do nothing but sing his praises and continually put him in prime positions. They clearly have great confidence in him. They are always telling folks that there is so much he does that fans don't see or understand. If they truly buy that, then their evaluation of him may be far higher than any of us perceive.

Bailey is like the last of the Snow era of filler. They’ll say whatever publicly to rationalize his first line minutes, but for a guy who’s consistently inconsistent, he’s not gonna be a part of this team for long. I get the idea of flanking the shooter (Horvat) with two pass first guys, but I just don’t see Bailey being that guy after this year.

Unless they extend him ahead of time, there's a whole year left on the deal for them to evaluate him. Maybe a switch flips and he starts becoming productive again but if I were a betting man I'd be putting money on his continued decline.

Well, there's Pelech, Pulock, Nelson, Cizikas, Clutterbuck, Barzal, & Sorokin from that era

I think unquestionably I dont see Bailey being that guy either. In fact I'd prefer two shooters on that line, as having two feeders and one shooter is a good bit easier to defend.

Its funny when you delve a little deeper into your picks they arent as impressive. You have Cizikas who was not selected because of his Rugby incident. Barzal was passed up by the bruins 3 picks in a row. Sorokin wasnt selected because of his KHL contract and the uncertainty of his NHL availability. Clutterbuck was traded for a top 5 pick....Id argue that you wouldnt select Clutterbuck as the 5th overall. Pelech was selected in the 3rd round as became a pleasant surprise. Pulock and Nelson came as advertised. Being that the isles missed on a roster of players including but not limited to top 5 picks, Strome, Bailey, Reinhardt, Neiderreiter, Dal Colle etc in pivotal rebuild years......i dont give credit for two successful players in Nelson and Pulock who came as advertised.

We all have that little, abused, Islander fan, in all of us always stressed and ready to freak out at the drop of a dime from years of Snow and Milbury. Bailey had a great career and run for himself. I think that’s the way the organization looks at him at this point. Or at least they better be.
