I hope so - BetweenTheDots
If the return is a 3rd or 4th round pick then KD should keep Lafferty. I don’t think he’s worth more, but he’s also worth more than that to the Hawks. |

I agree. Make a team pay for cost certainty like KD made Tampa pay. If the return is less than a second, keep him.

Yeah, I am keeping him too if they don't get a 2023 second rd. pick. |

With the Hawks filling the prospect ranks with d-men is it time to trade one for a forward prospect? Nylander / Jokiharju part deux?
Nolan Allan for Brad Lambert? |

You get what you can for Athanaseu, no reason to just give Lafferty away. |

I don't think KD has to have any kind of pride in any deal right now, its not like Lafferty is part of this teams future. Get as many picks as you can |

You still need vets next year, he isn’t blocking anyone.

Thats what free agency is for
So don't make a deal when someone is willing to trade you draft pick or picks, and keep a player who's not part of your future because you felt you could get more for him
I mean are we trying to rebuild this team or not? |

If you don’t get what you want at the trade deadline, if you are so anxious to get a draft pick, you can trade him after the season or next TDL.
Trading Lafferty for a 4th or 5th round pick is not accelerating the rebuild. All your getting maybe in another 3-4 years is another Lafferty. |

So you don't trust your ability to draft players? I guess if the Blackhawks feel the same way they shouldn't either
And if you do end up with another Lafferty in 3 to 4 years he'd actually help the rebuild |

Only 11% of 4th round draft choices and 7% of 5 th rounders play 100 games or more in the nhl. So iff the Hawks are twice as good drafters than the rest of the league, the person they draft have a less than 1 in 4 chance of having any sort of meaningful contribution in the NHL. As a GM, I hope KD sticks with I won’t trade anyone unless I get what I believe to be fair value. You still need to fill out a roster next year, and I think Lafferty is more valuable to he Hawks than a 4th or 5th round picks.
We can get those picks trading AA possibly Richardinson, maybe J Johnson, for 4th 5 th round picks.

Still upset about not getting 6th rounders for Strome and Kubalik?
It is quite simply poor negotiating to “take what you can”. For the reasons laid out in the article, Lafferty will (and does) have a lot of interest throughout the league. If you can’t pull more than a 3rd or 4th for him, KD simply isn’t doing his job. And frankly, to me, that would foretell the Hawks being back in exactly the same crap position they are now as he would likely fold when a player demanded for more money than they were worth in contract talks.
Take what you can get is what you do when you have no leverage, or no demand in an asset. |

I hope he's able to get more than a 3rd, but you know sometimes it's just not in the cards. So i guess the board consesus is we keep him? I guess that's one way to rebuild
So you think that if he settled for a 3rd round pick he would fold in contract negotiatons? Now that's a stretch
