I'm not sure if it was during the 2010 playoff run or another playoff season but Laviolette asked the players to all agree to not drink and party while the playoffs were ongoing. Richards and Carter, along with a few other players declined. I may have some of the details incorrect but that is the gist of it.
- MJL

Most of this! Richards, Carter, and carbomb has several photos of themselves hit the internet of them out partying late into the night during that playoff run.
Supposedly the team and Lavy got upset with them for not focusing on The big picture of winning the cup so they were traded.
Nobody knows the truth for sure but supposedly the team tried to call them out under the radar and asked every player to sign the "Dry island" board above the exit to the locker room and again, supposedly, none of Carter, Richards, or Carrillo signed the board.
It is officially Flyers hockey myth and legend stuff now. One day I hope that someone breaks the story to all of us but until then we needlessly debate it because That’s what we do here!

Watching the skills comp. This is horrible. I like Pat Maroon as a player but FFS why is he involved in this? This is so gimmicky that I can't stand it. It's just a clown show.

Yea, the whole thing looked like it was directed by Rodney Dangerfield. But not very funny

The NHL All Star event really illustrates just how insignificant the NHL is.
- Dkos
Seriously, does anyone take ANY All-Star games seriously? Not sure where you are coming up with this in relation to the NHL's insignificance. Although I'll agree that what I saw of it was a complete clown show. They are simply trying too hard to be appealing. Just do the damn hockey skills competition and be done with it.

This is all media hype. They were young guys in their 20's with a social life, Oh my goodness! Know who else was in some of those photos? Danny Briere! I wouldn't have signed it either and it was a mistake by Laviolette.

I am curious how far Michkov falls in the draft. I do believe he is the 2nd best prospect in this dtaft. I would be shocked to see him selected top 3. If he gets to the Flyers if they pick outside the top 4, I would advocate selecting. He is a potential elite talent. so for me he is worth the risk.

He's also starting to slip b/c there are questions about his tunnel vision and hockey sense. He was struggling a bit earlier this season.

That and Carlsson's stock is rising too.

I give the NHL props for the attempt, but the gimmicks were so silly and bush league. The dunk tank/surfboard shoot was kind of fun (like last years fountain target shoot) but overall the entire spectacle fell short, and the commentators were not good. Got bored and changed the channel.

The horrible interviewers, the D-list celebrities who seem to not know why they are there or what hockey is, the desperate attempts to make the players and event seem interesting, the cringey way the players seem to be just trying to make it through without looking too foolish, and the general sense of disorganization in the production seem specific to the NHL to me…although I admit I don’t watch much of the other sports’ all star games. I’ll agree with you too…just do the skills competitions. Let the players retain their dignity. The show shouldn’t be any longer than an hour.

Is Michkov beginning to look like Yakupov #2? No sense burning a 1st round pick on him.

I was out pretty quick too. Did anyone else find it particularly uncomfortable (and maybe a little offensive) when Subban made McDavid choose a nickname and McDavid chose McJesus!?!

Is it possible that the NHL might be trying to target an audience other than the hardcore NHL fans? If so, not sure how that is going to work.

If there is one thing that the NHL is horrible at doing, it's marketing their game.

Who are they targeting with that show last night? Young people? Kids? Girls? I honestly couldn’t tell. Hockey is a weird outsider sport to non fans. Why not embrace it? They’re on ice. They’re doing magic on skates. Why not promote the speed, finesse, toughness, violence? They already look like super heroes in their uniforms why would you ever show them looking skinny and awkward in their khaki shorts and golf shirts? How does showing one of the greatest athletes of our time in a dunk tank make anyone want to watch hockey? These guys do amazing stuff on skates. Show it. Whoever is in charge of marketing for the NHL is really dropping the ball (or puck) in my opinion.

Agreed, I actually don't watch any of the All-Star games cause I think they are basically a waste of time. I only saw the first half hour and the last half hour last night. It's the same awkward crap year after year. Do what the NFL does and just reward the players with a vacation in Hawaii after a long hard year. Or better yet just scrub the whole All-Star thing and bring back the World Cup of hockey!

Perhaps they were trying to cater to NBA fans with the whole South Beach thing going on. Typical ESPN! The NHL should have stayed with NBC. LMFAO!!!

Oh, and referencing Miami Vice? Miami Vice? Who’s the target audience for that?

The only thing missing from that clown show last night was a bunch of hunnies in microkinis. Come to think of it, that would have been a major improvement... just sayin, boys... just sayin

Promoting the speed, finesse, toughness won't grow the audience. They definitely don't want to promote violence.

Coots back on ice rehabbing, could be back this season but not sure, they will proceed cautiously.

Hmmm, what could influence their decision.

Flyers could go 2-4 in the first 6 games back, they do, I think it is sell time and coots next year time
