Ah got it. I see Saros is another 2 years at 5M per after this year - I like that!
- Cush29

Nashville has their team locked in for a few more years. I think they keep Saros and look at this year as just a down year. Similar to how Tampa and Colorado had missed a few times and picked up great prospects/players.

Well that's encouraging then. So they were not actually "outclassed"?

- Cush29

Not outclassed, but it was hard to watch...specially late in the 3rd.

It’s always one shot away. Bottom line, they don’t get it done, ever.
- Bullot

Youre right, they havent gotten in done.
Theyve failed the past 6 years.
But, they look different this year, so heres hoping they finally get past the 1st round.
I predict they see the 3rd round

The Cup is the hardest trophy in sports to win - you know that eh? Just cause you have a great team doesn’t mean you win and if you don’t your team is garbage and needs a complete do over.

the bolder: not literally ‘ever’ though right…cause they’ve won a whole bunch of Cups…and by that rational there are a lot of organizations that have NEVER won a Cup - so just right them off as garbage…like Tbay and Boston and Carolina last year cause they didn’t win either.

Leafs are in a tough draw (as are the Bs and Bolts). Hardest first rd match up in the league. To me unfair but such is a league run by an American

31 teams lose every year. It's much easier to say a team sucks and isn't a contender than to be excited about a good team. When the sharks were real good and didn't make the finals for a long time it didn't make them non-contenders. Just that it's tough to win.

Outclassed? I guess that's one way to say it but I'm not sure I agree it's the right way or the most accurate but I missed the game so maybe?

I mean it's not like the Leafs were missing any players that are top tier or anything.....

I hope Boston's luck runs out and they get slammed with a bunch of injuries to their top players and one of their 2 goalies and we will see how they fair then - I mean let's compare apples to apples here.

- Cush29

Bruins started the season without Marchand and McAvoy, and DeBrusk is out with a broken foot. Certainly not the worst hit in the league, but they are not immune to injuries.

Last night's game was a lot closer than the final score makes it seem.

The man games lost by Toronto vs Boston isn't even close. Boston has been one of the healthiest teams all year and Toronto has been without one of their top 3 D men all year and will continue to be in addition to being top 3 in man games lost.

Again it's not apples to apples but I'm glad it was close last night - hopefully this is the year the Leafs can slay some dragons (yes I used the plural).

If sure would be a huge confidence boost if the Leafs met and beat both the Bruins and Tampa.

You are coming in here and saying the 3rd best team in the league needs 5 pieces...its not that you aren't allowed the opinion its just a far out there. One that many would look at and scratch their heads given the results and stats in front of us.
- Santo_44

Totally fair statement Santie.

Out of these 5 players:

Holl, Sandin, Kerfoot, Engvall, Anderson

Would you not upgrade them if you could? Are they not kinda the weakest links in the line up?

Kerfoot: redundant if Leafs get a LW then having Jarnkrok, the money could help upgrade the D or acquire the LW. And UFA that won't be re-signed.

Holl: he's fine but a guy for $4M that's a bit better AND punishes fools in the crease? And UFA that won't be re-signed.

Engvall: he's fine-ish, doesn't use his body but he's fine just not $2m worth for 10g and no hits. And UFA that won't be re-signed.

Anderson: who cares, he's just taking a spot someone with more jam could have, and a cheap guy can be found, might be on the Marlies.

Sandin: really good trade chip and I feel he's slow and small for an already soft D.

Not a total gut like it some of you make it sound, just small upgrades in each spot COULD make this team stronger for the playoff hopes of everyone including Dubas and his contract extension.

Will the Leafs add at least one player, probably/maybe, should they refine the roster a little more, ya, why the (frank) not if you're trying to win a Cup for the first time in 55 years.

Leafs have played ... 52 games.
Marner 52 gp
Nylander 52 gp
Tavares 52 gp
Matthews 47 gp

It's not just the number of games lost - it's the quality. Leafs had some injuries on D, but the Mega-Million$ players - the ones who impact the games the most - have played almost all their games.

And you are reaching a bit for Bruins being one of healthiest as they are 12th "best" - couldn't break the top-10.

Oh like Jake Muzzin?

I’m reaching - fine let me re-phrase Boston being 13th best at # of man games list has been very fortunate from an injury perspective as opposed to the Leafs who lead the league in man games lost. Is that better? The point is the same.

And as someone else noted you listed some of the Leafs top players while totally skipping over the top 3 d men who have missed chunks of time as well as both top goalies.

Boston has been good and fortunate - if the shoe was on the other foot you would be dousing expectations here with the exact same argument and you know it!
