Anything to get J.B outta the lineup

Here's some ? of the Day. Obviously Girgensons Okposo Mitts Olofsson are somewhat the obvious players that will be moving on as are prospects replace them.
Who in that group is here long term or are you willing to extend. At that point are you just blocking prospects. Are you willing to commit to Olofsson at 29. - Buff36
You don’t sign any of those players long term.
The only long term players we want forever are
Cozens
Dahlin
Power
Skinner (since he is already signed)
Tage (already signed)
Tuch (signed for a decent term)
Samuelsson (he’s signed)
The rest can come and go like a revolving door.
That is what Pittsburgh did for the most part for Crosby malkin staal fleury letang for how long? |

I think this is a really good point of view and see this side of the equation. Sell hot, tough next contract ect.
What I think the Sabres will/ should do is keep these guys together this year and next. It was the original plan and KA doesnt strike me as a "change of plans " guy.
I think the trade deadline is boring and this board explodes with stupid rants about Darcy staying put.
2 year plan right?
Clean out the bottom 6 or let olo sign as a ufa team friendly deal. I roll him directly to ufa status and hope he stays on the team that picked him. Moving him at the deadline opens up different feelings/vibes/continuity.
Dahlin was already joking at the allstar game about olofsson being "a mean guy" and he's the last guy he wanted to walk on the beach with, given the chance.
Keep dahlin happy with his friends, get him signed max. - Boss34
If you want to extend VO, why would you wait until he's UFA? Worried about regression? Isn't that still a concern a year out?
They have a good team 20m under the cap. Time to try harder to improve.

Call it continuity and it's working. Sabres aren't gonna mess with that.
All these silly trades aren't happening |

Money's gonna be tight. I think you punt 2 years with olo, guys a 3rd line player right?
Address your 2c
1OA
Other 1OA
Prioritize your top players . Maybe one of the Many prospects at forward will be ready to step up? |

A year from now, the only way money is tight is with a big trade/UFA.
You are surprisingly indecisive here.

Can we stop comparing everything to Murray?
I get it we are terrified to get murdered in a trade again, but I don’t see it shown anywhere giving up multiple roster players and picks and prospects for one player. - ImThatGuy
That's fair, I just don't think it's necessarily the position we need to give up multiple pieces for. Do that for Dahlin's partner. |

For the most part I think his overall game has been great this year.
I thought his defense was the best part of his game beginning of the year, been a little shaky at times but I feel thats more so from that fact he isn't physical. Don't think the coaches are putting enough emphasis into clearing of the net either. Samuelsson should of known better last game on that first goal. Its been a problem all year. Maybe they got away from it since Dahlin was tossing people on his goalies

Ok can someone answer me this?
How does the All Star thing work. Tage was named to the team. He gets hurt and then Dahlin was named in his stead. Are they both All Stars now?
I was just thinking about old hockey cards where they would sometimes have a feature card that the wall Star players would have. Like Pro Set 1991 when they had series 2.
And when the player retires or wins an award and they manetuon his accolades. Would Dahlin have All Star beside his name? Would Tage?
Not sure why this was a bothering me so much - Da_Cashman

Not sure that I need to repeat my stance:
Let olofsson play out his reasonable contract and have him go ufa after the 2023-24 season.
I do not care about "asset management " he was a 7th round pick and played 5 nhl years.
If olo is reasonable and takes a team friendly deal to return, great. If not, 1 if the many forwards in our system should be ready.
Not trading him this season at the deadline is the trade deadline move. |

He has drastically improved 2 - 3 things since his horrific 1st 10 ish games
1) He moves his feet way more. Early on, he was gliding and not really skating.
2) passing has improved. Early on I can tell you how many times he used to flub passes regrouping and trying to break the puck out.
3) his offensive ability (it’s not Dahlin high) but his shot has improved and offensive zone skating / reading and reacting has gotten so much better.
Before his goal streak. You could see it was coming
I used to see hedman in power but now I see Nicklaus Lindstrum. He isn’t amazing at anything. Just really good and solid but extremely extremely smart |

Guess there's no need to keep going in circles, but you're dodging the questions and being indecisive here. Would have thought this was an easy one for you and your reservation surprises me.

Hank - very creative blog and I agree on divison rivals and playing a schedule similar to the nfl. Playing the opposite divison every 4 years. Maybe I go a step farther and suggest 1st place play 1st place in another divison ? Similar to the nfl?
I did read the nhl was considering 84 games, mainly to have more division games.
Who doesn't want to see the leafs , bruins and habs 4 times a year at home? |

I think someone will give Olofsson the Strome contract - 5x5.
I genuinely don't know what his trade value is though |

According to ESPN, the NHL is discussing increasing the number of regular-season games per year from 82 to 84.
The league is doing so as a possibility to create more divisional games. This season, rivals such as the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins; Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames; and New York Rangers and New York Islanders face each other just three times.
The number of divisional games decreased from 28 per season to 26 after the Seattle Kraken started playing.
The change would allow the NHL schedule matrix to remain where every team plays in every building at least once per season. The preseason could be condensed to allow for more scheduling flexibility.
The topic did not come up at this week’s board of governors meeting in Palm Beach, Florida but will likely do so at the GMs’ meetings this March.
Last month, GMs were seeking a way to decrease travel and increase the number of rivalry games, including playing multiple games in one stop on a road trip if necessary.
The NHL declined to discuss this possibility, which would need to be signed off by the NHLPA to become reality. The CBA currently restricts teams from playing more than 82 games in a regular campaign.
Leafs and habs 1 game each at home.... who's ok'ing that? |
