Known vs. unknown, including the 1st. I value the known commodity much more than I value potential. He is a twenty goal scorer and a man who gets you points on the PP. That has value to other teams I think when they can add him directly onto their roster. Now in a hypothetical trade for a Meier, if he were included, you would still need to add a first round pick and something else, I think.

However, I also think from the sabres perspective that his trade protects those prospects that everyone seems to want to keep; not having his multi-year $5 - $6M contract (per estimates here), giving you room to add and sign a Meier type long term while giving the trade partner immediate value. So from the Sabres perspective his departure adds value. Who would you rather have long term, the known Meier or the pretty much known Oloffson? I would rather give away Mittelstadt but he does not have that value to another team or from the Sabres perspective, even if he is improved with Jost as his center. I don't think.

I would not overpay for Barbadhev due to last season's anomalous production.

Where do you play Ritchie in the lineup?

Do you put him with Cozens, and rotate the rookies like Quinn and Peterka from game to game?

Can Ritchie even keep up with a speedy line?

What line would Domi Center? Is he playing over Krebs or Jost?

They could have him play wing on the Cozens line while rotating the two rookies mentioned above, and take faceoffs when needed like Skinner does for the top line.

This would be an interesting trade target from Chicago, but I have no idea why they'd want to trade him.
