Seems Korchinski won't get much more development out of jrs by next yr but IMO, as of today, less chance for harm KK doing another yr of jrs than being brought up to the NHL as a 19/20 yr old on a bad team.
Kid is the centerpiece of D prospects, I don't think KD and staff will take unnecessary risks with the kid. - Mr Ricochet

lets hope so......
If there are 2 things I would love to see from KD
1. Acquire as many picks/prospects as possible.
2. Do not rush kids...and make sure you have the right support system in Rockford so when they do get called up they are improved and when they get sent back down they can work on the things necessary to stick next time.
Could care less about what veteran they sign on the big club because we aren't even in the realm of that being important. Hit the cap floor, sign guys to favorable deals and flip them...repeat and rinse as necessary. |

I can't see putting Bedard in a five thousand seat area. - bjphawkfan
He allowed the Mtl uniform to be butchered by their Reverse Retro trash, he could have Arizona "win" the lottery. I don't trust him to do anything positive for this league.

And as BM points out this was the same "developmental path" as Wright. Has NHL clubs found a kind of work around to the NHL-CHL agreement that keeps players in juniors until they are out of jrs eligibility? ..... We'll see but an interesting option/path.
Gotta wonder if Vlasic isn't one of the rookies up with the Hawks next yr as Rick points out. Camp/preseason will answer some questions, but Vlasic seems sufficiently ready. - Mr Ricochet
I will argue Phillips is more ready. Already will have 3 years of pro experience, and had a breakout season with the Hogs this year, and has not looked out of place with the Hawks.
I said Roos because he will be in his second year of a 2 year contract, got to see if he is a long term answer, plus he plays both sides.
If Mitchell is signed and/or not traded, I cannot see the Hawks doing that unless he is on the big club.
That is 3 rookies, you will have Jones and probably 1 of Mc Cabe or Murphy. That is 5 f the seven spots. Unless Tinordi gets dealt ( does he still have anty trade value) I can see the Hawks signing him as a seventh defenseman. IMO the last spot goes to a veteran free agent, or a throw in on a trade that KD makes.
I don’t see KD introducing more than 3/rookies into the line up to start the season.
I also see jhawk favorite Galvas go the way of Kalnyuk and not be resigned. Need the contract slot. |

Yeah, at this point, I'm hoping to see basically what you laid out from the TDL until the end of the year. I really want to see Mitchell and Phillips get consistent regular time to see how they settle in. I know they are still getting used to NHL hockey, but playing that sporadically can't be great when trying to build confidence and momentum. |

Oh, no doubt Phillips is the most ready from what we've seen and I do expect him to get the first long look at the NHL. Guess I took that for granted when talking about Vlasic being talked about as the first rookie up even though Phillips is indeed a rookie... I should have been clearer.
Roos is what, 23ish? Is he part of the long term plan or a guy who can be kicked up and down as needed with development concerns left for the Vlasic types?

And reading between the lines, seems they may have known about the injury when they drafted him.
Which you assume would means that they understood the severity and felt OK with still taking him with that pick. |

If you had to bet a dollar today do you think Korchinski plays with the Hawks or is back in the CHL next yr? And to further that, and I know it's too early to say, which Dman rookies are the most probable to be with the Hawks next yr? - Mr Ricochet
I am with LA Hawk.
Korchinski gets a taste lots of press box and pro practice time, but as soon is there ANY slight signs he FEELS / they feel he is starting to struggle, he goes back to junior, or the World junior U-20 etc.
This is a blue chip prospect that they haven't drafted, and wasn't a swing for the fences like concussion boy in Columbus.
In junior KK gets panicked in his end makes poor evasive turns in pressure, so this is another ticklish situation.
I think he certainly has to feel comfortable walking into camp with two defenseman from his World Junior there with him...no feelings of inferiority from the onset.

Wow! So the Hawks let him walk and he signs a 5X$5M contract. Crazy! But good for him. |

Nothing uncommon about that in a young Dman. Thats why you let a kid like him progress thru junior league play, best on best tournament play and then minor pro for awhile hopefully under good coaches.
Advance him to the NHL too soon like Stan Bowman would do, the risk for ruining the kid is huge. Paul Coffey used to make some monumental gaffes on the Oiler blue line as a young D, took 4 or 5 seasons b4 he won a couple Norris Trophies. And there will be no Gretzky, Messier, Anderson forwards to bail him out with goals when KK gets to Chicago.
