Yeah, I'm thrilled to have him at the moment but definitely have some anxiety about what it will look like in the long haul. It really becomes all about him v. Raty. If Bo continues at a 30g clip for a few years and Raty fails to become a top line player, I think it was well worth it. But if Raty becomes a 30g 60+ pt guy himself, we could be squirming a bit. I'm excited to see him arrive though. He's a good family & community guy and must have wanted to have come here all along.

All fair points but I think we need the 30 goal guy now. We don’t have the time to wait for Raty to develop. Whether he gets there or not is moot really. As far as the cap hit 5 years from now, you deal with. Have to believe once the NHLPA pays back their debt the cap will increase a lot and the top guys will be signing much higher contracts. It’s just the way it goes.

Great Sunday! Spurs beat Man City and Horvat signs

I’m at a dance competition, my younger ones first of the season. The last two out of three were soccer tournaments for my older one. Free time is becoming very sparse for me.

Have barely watched Bo play but I’m still pretty psyched to have him from what I’ve read.

So, the Islanders gave up a inconsistent Wing, an unproven Prospect, and unknown draft pick for a 27 yr old captain, proven scorer, solid on faceoffs unrestricted free agent rental???

::::::Update::::::

The Islanders sign top unrestricted prior to unrestricted free agency. Beating out 31 other teams...

I like what Lou has done here. Isles now have five (5) bonafide NHL centers. Isles could now flip one for a scoring winger.

Does he push this team to playoffs and a long run??? Who knows. But it is a positive move for the Islanders as he is 5 years young than Lee...4 years younger than Brock and Casey...and 3 years younger than JGP....

Good thing that Lou got him locked up. Some chatter(we all know that means nothing)about us trading Pageau or even Nelson. If Lou were truly going for it this year he’s not doing that. I can’t see it. He likes them both as he should for the playoffs and right now that’s the goal. Possibly the off-season if this season doesn’t cut the way he wants it too.

an honest assessment from a Canucks fan here who loved Bo

Horvat is a good offensive player, shoots first, great wrist shot, and is a money bumper player on the PP. I think one of the best assets he has is his Faceoffs. He is a an absolute BEAST for winning faceoffs. I believe (might be wrong) that he has been in the top 5 faceoff percentage for the last 3 or 4 years. I think he is a very good 2nd line center, and a mediocre/low end 1st line center (when comparing to the elite C's in the league).

The bad. Horvat isn't this defensive responsible player that people think he is. He was often referrred to as a Bergeron-lite, but he isnt. He is decent defensively, but his offense is where his skill points are in. He is a career 50-60 point player outside of this year, which in a contract year, is sort of par for the course. He will be 28 when this deal kicks in, and 35/36 when it ends. If Lou lost him in free agency, the Islanders would riot, and clearly he is going to get paid as a UFA after this year, so the numbers are expected. 8.5 is a huge overpay, but what other choice did the islander have given how Horvat set himself up this year? He will most likely give you 7.5aav value in the next 3 or 4 years, and the last 3-4 years he will 100% give you less than ideal value given his AAV. Having said that, that is just the price you pay for these types of situations. All in all, its a big time overpay, but its 100% expected given the circumstances. Be happy Isles fans, you got a good player and he will give you consistent goal scoring for the immediate future.

Neither have I and I’m right there with you. We’ve been watching the same players pretty much for a while now. I’ll also say they haven’t been too much fun to watch lately.

Getting a player who is playing like he is right now is awesome. Hopefully he keeps up at this pace and gels with the team.

I heard the AAV is $8.5M?? That can’t be true…

I’m assuming someone is trolling. He’s worth about $6.75, but will prob get $7.5M

Anything more would be so awful

Well Horvat is 27 with 54 pts in 49 games on an awful Canucks team this year. He plays center.

Recent signings of Huberdeau (age 29) and Kadri (age 32) are 10.5 and 7 million respectively for far less points. yes Huberdeau is a winger but he's still paid more, older, and less important of a position.

Honestly, it's pretty fair value.

Isles are paying a guy based on a season that is so clearly an anomaly. He’s been a remarkably consistent 50-point player throughout his career. Now, on a very bad team, he’s putting up unusually big numbers

We’ve seen this time and time again. The Kadri comparison is actually an apt one, but Kadri was signed for $7M. Not $8.5M

Horvat at $8.5M into his mid-30s? Woof
