Was just weird that the Leafs didn't pick him.

This is what EliteProspects 2020 NHL Draft Guide wrote:
"He is an absolute behemoth of a dude at this level, imposing his will with thunderous hits, overpowering one-hand pushes, and crosschecks. He's composed and doesn't over-do the physicality or take needless penalties; enters every hit with his stick leading and doesn't hit unless he can't break up the play otherwise."

If you look at the overall type of players Kyle drafts, it's not weird. At all.

The guy who has an xGF% of 43.7? Last year was at 42.5%? 36.4% in the playoffs?

If you didn't have Shesterkin in net, you'd hate Schneider.

Guy is still just a baby ffs

Letting him just play and make his mistakes and learn is def the right way to do it - well the right way if you're a big guy that can stand up for yourself that is...
21 pts in his first 82 games aint too shabby

The problem on the back end is we have No physicality. Forwards arenā€™t afraid to wander at will in the Leafs end, and when needed, run the goalie, with No response. During the regular season thatā€™s only an issue here and there, but in the playoffs, in a seven game series, itā€™s an issue every game.

Thatā€™s because nobody takes them anymore. Too easy to block and guys like Matthews can shot hard and quickly, more accurately without the big windup. There are about half as many clappers as 10-15 years ago. Goalies can read the angle of a slap shop more easily than a wrister

You've been watching the Leafs lead by Morgan "can't shoot" Kaberle. Players are one timing all the time, mostly on the PP. Ask a goalie how much they like seeing Stamkos/Kucherov on both wings one timing or Draisaitl/Pasta blasting it from their spot.

So thereā€™s been a bit of an assumption that, if necessary, Dubas could move that very versatile Kerfoot to provide cap room to make all of our trade dreams come true (mine included). Now Alex is a smart school and went to that Harvard School for Smart People. Youā€™d think that if he wants he to stay with his buds on the Buds heā€™d use his 10 team NTC to make a trade more difficult. If dumbasses like us can figure out who the most likely trade destinations would be, so would his agent. Obviously it doesnā€™t take every team out but it sure could take out a lot.

They should have to publicly declare the list (they submit them in July I believe) so we can have more drama to banter about.

Slapshots/game are are half of what they were 10 years ago - down from just over 7 to just over 3 and a half. Those are NHL stats from an article in the Athletic

Hey. You remember when we had a senile GM and he traded UP in the draft to get Luke "the human eraser" Schenn?

Who knew the human he'd erase would be Paul Holmgren as the GM of the Flyers?

Good times.

But this way we can blame our idiot GM for not trading him to Arizona

Just a note that those are slap shot numbers and the league doesnā€™t break out how many of those slap shots are one timers.

Really you're emphasizing that point though - slapshots from the blueline are diminishing - they have very low success rate: they are notoriously inaccurate, goalies track them well, and unless a guy can get a stick on it - which is harder on a fast clapper than a well-placed wrister - or if there's a fantastic screen in front, it's usually a pretty easy save.

Now if Al MacInnis were still around and allowed to just walk into the high slot and uncork one? That would be f'n lethal.

Stick technology also changes things. If you can fire the puck (hard) a dozen different ways without a big windup and without the goalie being able to read what youā€™re doing you arenā€™t going to bother with the slap shot very often.

Marchand, on chirping with the #Leafs: "I have not had a whole lot of chatter with Bunting. There's not really many guys who like to get into it. Mitch is out there talking about video games and his dog and those terrible new skates that he has got out.

marchy is a bigger Leaf fan than I thought

Arizona is nuts. They gave their water rights to the Saudis who sell water back to them for huge profits.

There were some thoughts that Schneider was just much bigger in Junior than most players at the time and that this advantage would regress when he hit the NHL. Oops!

Having said that, no one could have expected Rodion Amirov to have the incredible misfortune he's had to date. Hope he's able to fully recover and selfishly(?) I hope he's able to resume his playing career with the Leafs org!
