Yeah, but they didn't count.

The Leafs did generate a number of HD chances, but in truth they were more optically HD chances - they got the puck down low or just to the side of the net in the home plate area, but the resulting shot was more of a bang into the goalie rather than a real scoring threat. For much of the game, they moved the puck to the net okay, but they really didn't get as many grade A looks with room or clear possession of the puck near the net. The Bruins did get more of those for sure, and the Bruins did get more shots off with time and space to make them count.

It was definitely a quality vs quantity case in terms of the HD chances last night.

My takeaway was that it was a really competitive game and for the most part the top dogs on both sides were shut down. Kerfoot line was better than the JT line at creating although JT had the Bergeron match up a lot more.

Most of our HD chances came from the Kampf line and Kerfoot line but they couldn't convert them ...Kerfoot, Engvall and Anderson all had some grade A's. Boston's grinders just did a better job converting - thanks in part to Sammy's missing glove hand.

Need 34 back in the mix and another top 6 guy and I think those chances to score go in more often.

Also Simmonds opening punch made me sleep better at night ...in spite of the fact that his line had a pretty poop night.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Grier out for some games, he caught him good.

Everyone gets so caught up with this bullpoop. What is it about Michael Bunting that the refs look the other way so often?

I want to harken you back to Matt Cooke, Raffi Torres, Burrows, Baraby, Tootoo, Laperriere, or more recently Tkachuk, Marchand, Gallagher, Wilson . . .

All of these guys have done their share of weasel/rat activities - and everyone knows about it, but I have seen them all get huge benefits of the doubt from the officials despite everyone knowing their reputations. The refs know to watch these guys and either they don't or they forgive the behaviour - and in some cases believe the best our of players known for demonstrating only the worst.

What is it about Michael Bunting compared to some of the deepest pits of sewer slime in recent hockey memory that sets him apart from getting legitimate calls?

Barbaby with his gold teeth? Burrows? Torres? I didn't even mention Avery.

He is competing with some of the most punchable faces in history - and while his is certainly worthy of merit and mention, it is far from a podium-worthy punchable face.

I shouldn't stick my nose in, but in this case everything yesterday came from this:

"Actually Holmberg shouldn’t have gone after the puck carrier but he’s not on the official list of guys we blame. Marner and Rielly are at the top of the list."
- Canada Cup in response to fake

"Wouldn't exactly say "we", spending your entire life on here mocking everyone with your snide invalidation BS is a you on an island thing.

You make retirement look awful.

Agree with this ...the Bunting narrative is such a Toronto thing. Marchand still behaves that way. Lots of emotional guys in the NHL it just gets blown up here by desperate for clicks media.

I wish we had 3 Marchands and some Tkachuks and Wilson's too. I'm fine with Bunting being emotional ..he just needs to be good.

Mike, you jinxed them with the title to this blog.

Tough night for that pairing. Lilly with some badly missed assignments and Sandin had the fumbles with the B's pressure.
