If this doesn't prove it, nothing does. This defense is overmatched against both Boston and Tampa. Adding a top 6 forward isn't the answer. The Leafs cannot play the two smaller defenders as the second defensive pairing. They might get away with the flash and dash in the regular season, but their size is a detriment against bigger and stronger teams. I mentioned Chychrun, earlier in the thread, just before the start of the game, and using Sandin as trade bait. Time to fish or cut bait. It's one and done, if the Leafs do what they've done in the past, adding a depth player or two from the bargain bin. A strong response is what's needed, not apathy. I imagine the Twitter Space will be a bitter place tonight!

Yup, they’ve had a good year. Bruins are the best in the nhl this year and they showed it tonight. Tough to beat especially when you don’t bring your best game. Take the 9 game rest and see what they can do on the second half of the year.

I think the Leafs outplayed the Bs for a lot of that game, but Boston is the best in the biz at finishing their chances. Once the Leafs were down 2, they had to get pinchy and desperate and thats when poop deteriorates. I dont blame Sammy too much. He's been overworked and even though some of the goals were from range, they had way too much time and space. Matthews would have helped tonight but even without him they kept their stars in check and thats impressive. I yelled at keefe for having Willy/Marner out there 4 on 4. Why am i smart enough to know thats stupid but not him?

My opinion of the Leafs needs.

Middle 6 winger (preferably 2nd line) - doesn’t need to be Kane or someone that high end. Should be someone with size who plays heavy.

Defensive physical dman.

Tender (honestly - the best one available…not just because if the 3rd period tonight). At the least a guy who has played avg in the league as another option.

Was on the fence about adding Meier but I'm on board now, top six power winger or top 4 D will be a must if they want to go anywhere this year. This game wasn't that bad, even with Matthews out, but it was a bit of a litmus test and you can just see the Bruins depth outmatching the Leafs down through the lines. I think an add like Meier would make a big difference, and he's an RFA so maybe the Leafs could still recoup something back in an off season trade by moving his rights if they can't keep him.
