Has anyone been keeping track of how many of these trade rumors/sources have come true? I'd like to know the percentage. Thanks.

Over the history of HB I think Ek got one correct. Ever. So about a 0.000000001% correct rate.

Depends who you ask. Yesterday he claimed to have nailed the Horvat trade...even though his last mention of Horvat mentioned that Colorado was heavily interested, as well as Boston, although Detroit had the cap space for a long-term fit. The last mention of NYI was an E4+ bidding war over Timo Meier.

But then Horvat gets traded and the immediate claim is he had just moved NYI to the top of the list.

So he's batting 100% at this stage.

Nah, dude is probably batting like 7% all time. He said Malkin wanted to be the man like 12 seasons in a row.

Is there any chance he'll be moved after the deadline in one of those late announced deals that comes hours after the window has closed, or is it definitely before the trade deadline?

One more clarifying question. We are talking about the 2023 trade deadline correct? I just want to make sure I put a calendar reminder on my phone. This news is HUGE.

its cute that he having a great season, but who would take 11.5m until 2027 ?
- Xizord

Ken Holland would. He's that terrible with asset management. Then probably extend him another 4 years. Per Holland: "the tie always go to the veteran" that also goes for the vets that are no longer effective and should be replaced by talented, younger players.

I doubt that you would find much support in the Ottawa fan base involving a trade for Karlsson. Sens are a year (or more) away from being serious playoff challengers. Wrong time, wrong age.

If it got down to 8M a year I'd bite, and to complete the circle of irony, I'd send Josh Norris back in return. Karlsson's wife is from Ottawa, he probably would come back. It's the albatross value and SJ's unwillingness to budge off 9.5 that makes it a no for me.

Reports suggest San Jose will take back $2m+ on the cap.

If you can get the cap hit down to $8m, it would be worth the risk for a contending team looking to win it all.

- spatso

Yeah, I agree that even if you dump a shorter contract to the Sharks (like a Jeff Carter), you're going to have to take more than $2 million off/year remaining.

Sharks aren't going to eat another bad long contract either, so it's gotta be more than $2 million/year.

It would be GM malpractice for the Sharks to take back salary for the next 4 years when you add in the Burns buyout and the Jones buyout for the next 3 years. The Sharks have no D man with offensive skills after EK 65, with no one in the pipeline either.
Keep EK65, trade Lebanc to Montreal for Price (similar to what the Dadonov for Weber trade was) use the LTIR to pay for Meier for the next 3 years, by then Vlasic's contract is off the books and the Burns/Jones combination plus the Cap will have increased. Eklund/Bordeleau replace LeBanc and Nieto so you could have 2 legit top 2 lines. Hope that you get Bedard and find a new stud D Man...

I'm not an Ottawa fan by any means - but I cannot believe you would seriously offer Norris for Karlsson. You guys fleeced the sharks on that deal. Keep it that way.

I agree. Karlsson is no longer a fit for Ottawa. Just too far outside the competitive window as all the kids. We need a few vets (eg., Giroux) but they need to be supportive of the young leadership and that would not be easy for Karlsson.

On the other side of the discussion, I do think a RHD will be coming to Ottawa before the deadline or over the summer. Not sure it is the best option but I think Norris is the primary asset that might be targeted for a move.

It's not that I dislike Norris, but I do suspect he got paid too much. Much like Karlsson did. Seeing we Sens fans talk about Ottawa's dearth of RD, at 8M such a move could be a double fleece. Not to mention repatriating a player often turns out to be good PR. I'm not pushing for it, but I don't hate it either. Grier needs to be careful though - retain on Karlsson and there's no chance for a Vlasic buyout. Reality is the Sharks are hamstrung for a couple years no matter what happens and they should probably keep Karlsson unless the objective is full tank for nearly half a decade.
