i think they are losing fans from the whole ESPN+ model being a poop show... People talk a big game about how they're going to stop watching X Y or Z for those silly reasons you mentioned but there's no evidence to support that actually takes place in practice. Anyone on here who has complained about that poop, are you guys still watching? How many people on here use illegal streams? I bet the answer to the second question is much higher than the first.

Trying to gain more fans so the sport grows = bad for some folks. Can't make it up really.

I don't think you're barking up the wrong tree here. TNT coverage is atrocious. Center Ice package is no longer available in Canada, replaced by Sportsnet NOW. Which is hot garbage.
I use illegal streams when watching live, but maybe more often start games around 9pm. So, I purchased a subscription and it is 34% more expensive than Center Ice, doesn't allow you to choose which team's feed you watch and routinely blacks out games in my area (Toronto and Buffalo).
If I wasn't a hockey fanatic, it might make me think about giving up.

I have the center ice package so I'm not one to ask, but yeah streaming ESPN+ is absolutely annoying as (frank)

Buy a smart tv, buy the Disney plus bundle, stream over 1000 games. Very simple. I'm an idiot and I can do it.

But seriously, the kids is where its at. No adult is going to start watching hockey, if they never did, because of stupid gimmicks. Biggest thing though is the cost. Its absurdly high, compared to kids playing other sports

well one thing that the NHL should do is stop putting 12 games on on a tuesday night at once, and then wednesday have only 1 game on the schedule and its like Ottawa vs Arizona or something

My feeling is, hockey is bar none the best sport to watch on tv and to attend live. People that refuse to embrace hockey are only hurting themselves and fk em

Plenty of people don't have the $ to do that and are therefore being boxed out of participating in viewership. Cranky old white guys are all talk and will continue to watch NFL, NBA, NHL, whatever no matter how many pride nights, players kneeling, furries etc there are. How come no one is mad about mascots trying to groom our children? Gritty is definitely a sexual predator.

Either you only care about the sport or you don't. Can't be only when it benefits your weird perspective (Not directed at you, just in general).

the fact that two great matchups the last night before the break, the only two games on the schedule mind you, both started at 700 shows you how broken the whole thing it

agree w/ watching and attending - but the league cant take the "(frank) 'em" view lol

mdw's right on the nose it starts with young kids and yeah watching is great but kids want to play the sport. doesnt help that to even get stick/skates on already sets you back like $250 for the smallest equipment.

I guess it makes sense to have all-star weekend the weekend that is a break between NFL championship and superbowl

but, the NHL is trying to convince themselves that people care about this thing, nobody cares

I just pray our 3 guys leave the weekend healthy

without charity or subsidies it's near impossible to get poorer communities, of which there are many more than communities that can afford for their kids to play, to get involved in hockey. Basketball just requires shoes and a ball. Football requires pads, which are not cheap but doesn't require sticks and skates.

ESPN+ went from 70 to 100 for the year. I literally only watch the rangers and no other sports. Paying almost 50% more year over year is a crime - so now i watch illegally. There's one fan they lost and i'm sure there are tons more.

Yeah but isn't it competing with an equally atrocious pro bowl this weekend? Or are they on separate days?

I do think the biggest issue is young people playing the game. Most people simply can't afford to play the game and it's turned into a sport of privilege. Same thing happens when you go to mountains to ski/snowboard.

I played roller hockey as a kid. Our financial instability as a kid for stretches of time is what kept me from advancing and eventually playing ice hockey. It was just impossible.

That's what I did. Finally caved and did it because the daughter can at least use Disney + and we already had Hulu. Ended up being a OKish deal.

But now I have cable TV, Hulu/Disney/ESPN, Netflix, Amazon etc.

I think most people need to be rooting for a team to watch hockey, while NFL clearly doesn't have that problem
