makes sense when selling something to start high and bring the price down if you do not get any bites
- senstroll

Unless he thinks there might be a GM who really needs a D and shown a willingness to pay.

Ottawa Oh I've come to terms with it. We've had a few mild winters back to back, so this poop tier one is reminding me of the bad times. At least it's not the East coast. Snow up to the roof.

Probably a bottom 6 forward do that jarnkrok can stay in the top.
I honestly dont see dubas going all out unless a deal falls in his lap that he cannot resist
Maybe a depth d as well

- Fakepartofme

I think he needs to take a serious shot. Matthews needs to see he’s on a team committed to winning.

Yeah Dubas is swinging this TDL.

They act like he has no cap space and with Muzzin on LTIR this is the first time he has had cap space in like 5 years.

This year's Lyubushkin could be Nikko Mikkola; I don't know if we need another LD - but @ $1.9m, he's big, hits, is mean and definitely wins physical battles. He's also slow and absolutely not offensively dynamic in any way.

An interesting move with a lot of moving parts could be to move out Kerfoot if you can acquire Bjugstad; he can kill penalties, actually play centre, and he wins physical battles and hits. Bjugstad also makes $2.6m less so there would be additional cap flexibility - depending on whether we were into LTIR usage or cap space.

There's an even split around here, but I do like Domi. He wins more faceoffs than he loses - 55.5%, although he likely platoons strong-side for his draws based on his numbers. He also doesn't kill penalties so if he comes into the lineup, the person he replaces can't have a key role on the PK. I do think he'd be a nice affordable fit as the 2LW with Marner and JT.

Henrique would be nice, but @ $5.825 there's a more steep cost to get retention from Anaheim, since it's larger and spread into next year as well. I mean if they eat 31% ($1.825) and bring him to a $3m player, that's fantastic, but now the price for the player has just risen significantly. Henrique, for the record, does kill penalties and is quite good at it.

I am on the definitely do not want O'Rielly train. He's not only having an absolutely awful year that begs the question of whether he's physically done, but he'd be coming back from a foot injury to compound upon the awful year.

Frankly, I think if they got a guy like Mikkola and one of Henrique/Domi, it would probably be affordable and impactful.

Bjugstad is my prediction for one of the adds...he can make Holmberg slide over to the wing

Henrique is my #1 hopeful for an add.

Please no Domi UNLESS they have an extension in place for cheap(unlikely)

O'rielly maybe.

If Dubas adds a D I think it is out of convenience attached to a F he gets.

My prediction that I also wouldn't mind is he gets Garland at 2M retained and not give up much plus Bjugstad and one other really good piece.

I should have realized that - I work with a bunch of people in Ottawa. It is no fun up there.

My wife's from Halifax, but her mom's family is out in Miramichi. The first time I visited, they had these overly high street signs by fire hydrants with a sign and a down arrow that said, "Fire Hydrant". At first I thought it was funny and educational - like they had to tell people what it was - until I realized the purpose and reason the sign was so high was because that's how high the snow got.

People say Canadians are resilient, but when I look at our weather, I tend to think our ancestors were just too lazy to keep migrating somewhere warm.

Not blowing out the cupboards on a high end ufa doesnt show Matthews that dubas isnt committed to winning.
I believe dubas has shown hes committed to winning, winning his way...but he has shown matthews that.

One of their 8 current D would have to be waived if they add a D. Considering that and the acquisition cost any blueline addition has to be significantly better than Benn.

Henrique at something around $4 - $4.5M is probably worth a 2nd and B prospect, I think. I don't mind the sounds of that at all ...if the price for Kane/Tarasenko/RoR is unappealing.

No it doesn't.
Getting depth pieces to allow for calle to play in the top 6 which hes done well at, shows he has confidence in the team.
Dubas has altered his way a bit of how he builds a team, again showing the team hes committed to winning, no matter whats required.
Moves will be made for sure, but if they arent emptying the prospect and picks pool on some high end player, thats fine (not fun but fine)....that wont prove dubas isnt committed to wnning. Dubas will make a trade(s) that makes sense for the team short and long term.
Im sure matthews knows dubas is committed.
With more cap flexibility, dubas could shoot for stars for sure, but not doing so wont prove to matthews anything negative about dubas

I'm not sure about Garland - both in terms of whether I actually believe in him and in terms of what Vancouver would be willing to do (like, he's a great worker and skilled, but he's very small). I mean there is talk that Vancouver wants to buy him out in the off-season.

Since he's 27, he gets bought out at 2/3rds his remaining salary, and the cost to Vancouver would be deferred over 6 years @ $1m for the first 2, and then $2m for the final 4 years. He has 3 years remaining as it is. If Vancouver ate $2m, as you suggest, they save money in the long-run, but technically they are short $1m in cap room over the next 2 seasons, but at least in years 4-6 they are clear.

The hard part in the Garland consideration is determining if cap room NOW is more important than cap room later - since the cap will likely make a big jump in 2 years, the room now might be more important to them since they are still tight to the cap.

I mean if he gets bought out, you can go after him as a free agent for nothing, but you're competing with everyone then.
