The Islanders have one thing a lot of other teams do not! Elite goal tending. Their Achilles heel is(has been) goal scoring. Horvat helps this. Who knows what happens? As others have posted already, If the Islanders slide out of wild card contention?....Just move Horvat for more than was paid to aquire him.
Good/great move by Lou!(IMO)

They already have Nelson and Barzal. How's he gonna get enough ice-time to make a difference? Move a C from their natural position to wing?

And who's gonna pay more for Horvat than was already paid? For less time...

"The Isles made the right move yesterday. And not a lot of people out there are getting it." - Ek

Then builds an entire rationale on false data.

Ya! I'm sure they traded for him to play him on the 3rd line???
He will help the offense no matter where he plays. Not saying it is a home run/ slam dunk...But come on? You guys tearing this trade down just to make you feel better about your team. And the teams that would pay as much (or more) for Horvat, Especially if he does well in a short term role for the Islanders at the deadline if the Isles regress big time is limited only to the teams looking to go all-in for the cup.

Yes
4th highest face off percentage amongst players with 1000+ face offs this season plays 3rd line. Makes total sense

Beauvillier was the Isles' top "Penguin killer" (after Seattle took Eberle in the expansion draft) so I am glad to see him in the other conference now.

Sabres are right in the hunt & deep in prospects. Time is now to go for the PO’s & add to get there.

NYI made a good trade but it isn’t enough to leap frog teams ahead of them & the Panthers are lurking.

Teams are not standing pat with this only the 1st trigger pulled. NYI taking a big risk & doomed for failure whether sooner or later.

Who said anything about 3rd line?

I DID say where does the ice-time come from? If he centres one of the top-2 lines he removes prime ice-time from one of the established C's already there.

It's not like the Isle had a gaping hole at the C position...

Not going to know for awhile, but he will either play wing with Barzal and take all the draws (Lee has done this a lot playing on Barzal's wing because he is atrocious at the dot) or Barzal will be moved to wing. Outside chance Nelson moves to wing, but his line is their best at the moment so I don't see that as likely.

Lamoriello is great at trades and he's quite patient, The Islanders are a really good team with problems scoring goals, Horvat should help that weakness.

Lou is NOT great at trades. He rarely makes one. The Toews trade is among the worst Isles trades since the Milbury era. He overpaid for Pageau and Greene. Palmieri really hasn’t been anything special. This trade will go down as the worst though if they don’t go on a deep playoff run and Horvat doesn’t resign. You don’t make a trade like this when you’re a bad team out of the playoff picture for a rental. On top of which, Lou has managed to compile the worst prospect pool in the league

They will probably move Barzal to Horvat’s wing. That’s what we hear

Talk on extension? Large price to pay if he won't re-sign?
