A good place for a GM to start on this team would be to dump Kap, ask Carter, Rust if they would accept trades to contenders and put Blueger, McGinn and Ruutta on the block.

Why would a contender want Carter?

Change of scenery, better teammates. He’d be good for a few goals a series. He needs some linemates to carry the mail.

All this trade talk and we haven’t even made it to the part of the season where Malkin misses a chunk of time and the team strings together a winning streak.

So last season he missed exactly the first half of the season recovering from surgery and re-joined them at game 42, played all the games from there on.

Good for a few goals and even better for a bunch of goals against when he's out there....unless of course he's put in a top 6 with stud linemates, that might help him....but that isn't happening because he cant keep up.

hahaha no way, he knows more about hockey than anyone else posting here.
Said so himself a few years back... which ironically was another bad take.

Nah. I just speak in truths and everyone else makes up things that make them feel good about their favorite team. I get it sports is about being a fan and cheering on your team.

If you can get him the puck, he is still a good shooter.

You've been shown that you're wrong and that you just make up sh!t to suit your bad takes on this page of the blog alone hahaha

I dont think there's anyone around here who currently feels great about this current Pens team, their play and roster on this day...but we sure do feel great about this era of Pens hockey, which certainly lessons how you feel about current team, for me anyway.

Even that has started failing him. He's missed a lot of opportunities this year.

I was going to say the same thing. He's had the puck with a point blank shots and he whiffs or it rolls of his blade. If ever there was a player who should miss games to keep him fresh, it's Jeff Carter.

Burke to PHN...

“(Hextall) is looking hard, but not to shake the team up,” he said. “We like our group. It’s a tight group. We like them. We’re not looking to make a trade to jar them awake, but it often has that effect, a trade, where it shakes up a team. So it can be therapeutic, but that’s not the intent, why we’re looking at it.”

He's shooting 8.9% this season with a career average of 11.1%, so that's not that far off. However, for his career he averages 3.13 shots per game...this season its 1.71. So he's shooting a lot less...and obviously big factors in this would be lower mins not being in top 6 or on top PP.

With regards to what you said though I can think of at least a half a dozen times he's missed very good opportunities, like open nets and what not....also, he just seems very fumbley (not a real word, I know) with the puck, which often leads to these missed opportunities.

Also from PHN...

The No. 3 line currently consists of McGinn, who doesn’t have a point in 16 games, Teddy Blueger, who has one goal in 34, and Jeff Carter, who is point-less in 10 and has one conventional 5-on-5 goal (not an empty-netter) since Oct. 20.

I think the group, when healthy or mostly healthy, has shown them a lot to like.

Any word on if Archie will be back for the 1st game after this break? I think if he is the bottom 6 is going to be much tougher to play against. I was totally against bringing Archie back in offseason but I rrrreally liked that 4th line of Poehling, Blue and Archie.

If Carter had his career average in shots per game this season and his career shooting % he'd have 16 goals so far.....but...there'd still most likely be more scored against the Pens if he was on the ice than he scores haha. Caved in Carter, the Crater.

No word, but he's been skating hard at practice. He can't be far off.

Yeah, that 4th line was good. Archie is one of the few players (maybe the only player) that has the D looking over their shoulders. I think DOC and Poehling add some of that element.

What's going to happen to Bertuzzi? Is he out the rest of the season? Will he be traded?

Why don't you like him? I can't say I watch many Wings games, but I've seen him play some good hockey. Wish the Pens had him.

Is it a contract thing? Asking for too much?
