Both teams lost this deal, kind of.

I don't hate the return for Vancouver, especially if they flip Beauvillier but that doesn't sound like what they're going to do.

I do not understand why the Isles did this. Even if you extend Horvat that doesn't do anything about the fact that this is a bubble team that's pretty old, pretty expensive, and has very little flexibility to improve next season.

- BINGO!

For what? Some Islander fans were for some reason enamored with the kid but he’s the literal definition of inconsistency. He also has a year left after this season. Maybe he puts it together in Vancouver but that extra year makes it tough to trade him at the TDL.

Canucks wouldn't let anyone talk extension as they said it gives the player and agent too much leverage
- Upstate_isles

That’s right I remember reading that now. Forgot.

$4.1 million per is a little high but not totally unreasonable for a 35-40 point guy anymore.

He might hold more value for a team like Arizona who need to hit the cap floor but would be happy to try and pump up his numbers for a year. I'm sure you could grab a 2nd rounder for him somewhere.

That would be a haul for him. Why do I think if we were trading him you would be here saying we’d be lucky to get a 5th round pick?

I kinda like him! Albeit his inconsistency is frustrating.

I guess you may be right. Max Domi got traded last year for Tyler Inamoto and Egor Korshkov, though some of that was because the Jackets kept trying to hold out until the last second and eventually blinked and took whatever crap they could get quickly.

Business days? I guess you’re going with this wasn’t his first offense.

They have some expiring contracts and I think they will try and unload a few deals in the offseason too. Varly, Mayfield and Parise are all up and Martin clutterbuck and Bailey have 1 year after this and I love to see any if not all gone

You’re not alone on that but I’m not disappointed to see him go. He wasn’t going to put it together here. Maybe he will in Vancouver.

Beau's talented and tenacious enough to go on a "prove the Isles wrong" tear where he'll look like arguably the best player in this deal for a stretch. But at some point he'll go back to shooting surefire goals straight into the goalie's crest for 50 straight games. I like him...especially the playoff version of him...but of all my concerns about the trade, losing Beau is probably dead last on that list.

I don’t think anyone is wondering where losing Beau places on my concern list

I don't understand where this notion comes from that Bo Horvat is apparently some sort of high-end sniper. Yes, he's having a phenomenal year...but he's got precisely 1 other year where he eclipsed 30 goals. His shooting % is 21.7 this year, which is 50% higher than his career shooting percentage of 14%. Maybe the magic continues with the Islanders for the rest of the season, but massive jumps in shooting percentage at this age are the exception, not the norm. Expecting him to continue shooting at 21% is a fool's errand.

Another (perhaps minor) factor in the #Isles decision to make the Horvat acquisition: I’ve heard Wahlstrom is out for the season due to his injury.

nitpicking - these stats the last 5 years are more indicative of a 30 goal scorer. a consistent one. How many of these have we had? He can score in the shootout, he goes to the front of the net and plays hard and physical. We lost a guy who disappears every year for huge stretches, a prospect that I like, but is not a top line player and a 1st that is protected if this doesn't work out.
