their biggest piece off the table the canucks now need to start trading anything that has value and stock up on picks and prospects. I think the trade is not terrible for canucks but if they waited they maybe get a better offer at the deadline.
- a1xfreakx13

Yeah this should signal the canucks are sellers and willing to selling sooner than later. I think Canucks weren't offered anything better than this because noone was allowed to talk to Horvat's agent regarding an extension. So I am unsure if the price increases that much come the deadline.

Obviously Horvat won today. He gets to compete for the playoffs.
Canucks also won and not just because of the 1st. They won because it's the first actual trade since the Nonis era that admits they need to rebuild. A higher draft pick is a welcome side effect to losing Horvat.

Bo may be looking to free agency but he's landed on a team with a top center to play with, a stable of solid forwards, solid d and two solid goalies. Plus an owner willing to pay him.

Ottawa traded JG Pageau to the Islanders for a 1st and 2nd in the 2020 draft.

Pageau was incredibly good for the Islanders in the playoffs. He is an exceptional playoff presence and one of the players that led the Islanders on a great playoff run in 2020. Clearly the Islanders had made a great trade!

Ottawa selected Ridley Grieg with the 1st round Islanders pick. Grieg looks like an outstanding top 9 player, perhaps even top 6. In the 2020 draft Ottawa struck gold. They selected Stutzle, Sanderson and Grieg in the first found and several really nice players on day 2. Vancouver already has some nice young pieces on their roster. Watch for them to try and add another 1st (or top prospect) as they begin to focus on this summer's exceptional draft.

Depending on your perspective both the Islanders and Vancouver did really well in this trade.

Silly to try and make an instant valuation on who won the trade. Short term the Islanders have an elite player who will probably help them make the playoffs, maybe, even win a round. My guess is a couple of playoff rounds nets out to a $15m gain on the Islanders revenue streams for this season.

Horvat spending his entire career with the Canucks and now these Islanders will go down as a very irrelevant career

He should opt for free agency

- Nucker101

Without question. NYI have not done well to build their team into a contender. They had 1 solid year with a masterful coach in Trotz but with all the picks they've had, they haven't drafted and developed stars outside Barzal.

IMHO

Beauvilier is no big add or a nothing special. Include him - fine - if rest of trade is good.

It isn't though

Ratty. might be a good offensive talent but he slipped a lot in draft rating. Could. be he is not an effective player away from puck....will he.check/smarts. To. be fair I have not read how he has transitioned to pro hockey. Brief cup of. Coffee means nothing.

The protected first- ha. Good bet Islanders not bottom 12

- jhawk59

Raty is 6'2, was originally projected to go near the top of the draft, slipped because of injury.
Chychrun is a similar case. Almost all prognosticators believe he's an NHL player, possibly top 6 talent, and he's cost controlled for two years after this. If NYI fall out and get into the top 12, that protected becomes an unprotected 2024 first, which in theory could be a very high first rounder if NYI is bad next year. Similar scenario happened with the first rounder Ottawa got for Karlsson (and the one the Sens gave away for Duchene). Beauvillier is an add on for salary purposes. Horvat is a good player but doesn't fix NYI's ageing issues. If you think best player received = trade won, then it's the Isles, but Vancouver got a good haul back for a pending UFA they weren't going to be able to sign.

That other conference final visit isn’t viewed as a solid year by you?

Big move by Lou, sign him to an extension. Guy is in his prime, no brainer. No idea what Raty will be, and Beau is a streaky player, talented but too many nights he's just a passenger, and now he will be separated from his boy Barzal, good luck Vancouver. Sorokin is too good to waste, need to keep the window open and swap out the old with younger blood.

Plus Lou got 25% salary retension, so the money for Beau and Bo the same. WIN!

As for the pick, always a crap shoot, especially after 12th. Do nothing get nothing, keep it going Lou. Glad you woke up.

Islander won this trade.

Vancouver retained $1,375,000 on Horvat contract too.
The 1st Vancouver received is a top 12 protected. like WTF!!

If it’s top 12 then they get next years unprotected.

And the salary is pro-rated. So it’s not as big a deal as you say. All depends if Raty and the pick pan out.

Those of you criticizing Ek for his reports that prove not to come to fruition, are idiots.

This is NHL rumours, not NHL trade predictions. There's a difference.

Don't you think one GM could be going hard after a player, but the opposing GM refuses to compromise on a key piece which causes the first GM to switch focus?

Hence, hearing "Team A is all-in on player A. (e-4)," but it doesn't happen.

You're also idiots because if you think he's making it all up, which is possible, you shouldn't be spending your energy here.
