The 1st is top 12 protected, still 4 lottery spots that the pick could land on.

NYI’s are not a high-skill team and Horvat needs that around him.

Isles are oldest team in the league at 29.36 and this does nothing for that. Horvat has awful contract written all over him. Career year in contract year is risky as hell

But he never said he was testing the market. So that's just speculation.
I doubt Lou is trading a good prospect and a 1st on a whim.

which could be the case. but, I don't think Lou is going to want to give a 27 year old, who is having a career year, but is still a 50-60 point per season average center to a 7+ aav max term contract.

It isn't a terrible move for the Canucks, I get why they did this.

If I'm Vancouver I hope the pick is top 12. NYI keeps it. Then in 2024 it's totally unprotected. No Bedard, but I'd rather have a shot at a top 5 pick in 2024 than picking 13 or 17 or whatever this year.

But maybe NYI will be flipping Horvat to Colorado. Ek said that was their main target...

This isn’t a great trade for the Isles even IF they resign him. Vancouver is the latest to take advantage of an old man who is clearly not well

Bo Horvat won because he’s out of the the sh!t-show that is the Vancouver Canucks. That said, for a rental player, it’s a good return. Hopefully Raty pans out for them.

Quality trade both ways. Shame the Canucks couldn't keep Horvat.

Onteresting and potentially good for both sides. If Horvat bails then Van wins hands down and someone better replace old man Lou real quick.

their biggest piece off the table the canucks now need to start trading anything that has value and stock up on picks and prospects. I think the trade is not terrible for canucks but if they waited they maybe get a better offer at the deadline.

Just to reiterate, the Isles still can flip Horvat if they don't improve in the playoff race. Maybe they don't get as good a return as what they gave up, maybe better, maybe similar, but they retain this option. Do this trade at the deadline, and they would be screwed if they miss, period. Also, by doing the trade now, it gives them a better chance to make the playoffs. That is another reason to do the trade now.

Looking towards next season, the Isles shed the Beauvillier contract, which has a $4.1 mill cap hit next year, and it gives them more flexibility for their moves this summer. Don't underestimate how difficult it is to shed a contract like that.

Let's see how the Isles fare between now and the deadline, because this story isn't over yet.

NY doesn't pull the trigger without some sorta assurances. Hovat will sign 7 years. This smells like Kessler 2.0

Surely the Canucks would have seen better offers if they’d waited? This is VERY meh

Horvat spending his entire career with the Canucks and now these Islanders will go down as a very irrelevant career

He should opt for free agency

People don't see the tanking side...Horvat wins us games! Get rid of him and Bedard chances grow larger

IMHO

Beauvilier is no big add or a nothing special. Include him - fine - if rest of trade is good.

It isn't though

Ratty. might be a good offensive talent but he slipped a lot in draft rating. Could. be he is not an effective player away from puck....will he.check/smarts. To. be fair I have not read how he has transitioned to pro hockey. Brief cup of. Coffee means nothing.

The protected first- ha. Good bet Islanders not bottom 12

It's stupid to ask who won a trade when in fact it could take years to get an accurate answer.

Unless NYI advance to the Cup final. It is said that the playoffs is a grind, and you need depth. Four solid lines. No shortage of toughness but also puck movers on defense

Does the NYI have enough of this?. Because in addition to all that, Barzal and Horvat could be difference makers. Strong in net.

I question if the team defense, and the blueline crew is as good as it was under Trotz. But if NYI make it to the Cup final, Horvat is a big help.

I also am asking with his shot, why Pullock doesn't score more. I recall a hat trick for him and other goals vs Chicago over the years

Islanders won this trade hands down!!!! Beauvallier is a third liner at best, the first round pick you won’t know how it pans out the same with Raty!!!! Plus if they don’t make the playoffs, Lou has a great bargaining chip!! A very calculated and shrewd move by the Boss.

Bo will be gone to the Sabres as soon as Lou figures they are not going to the playoffs. Buffalo gives up Mitts, a lottery protected 1st round selection for 2024.

absolutely bonkers post

Beauvillier is a throw in for cap reasons. Cap going out and cap going in.
Raty "not knowing how he pans out" is just a stupid statement. The kid is a 20 year old center playing in the NHL and was their best center prospect.
"The first round pick might not even pan out!" is also just an idiotic statement. 2023 is supposed to be one of the deepest drafts in recent years, if it slips to 2024, its unprotected. Lou has dealt his last two 1st round picks, for Romanox and now Horvat, and has traded his best center prospect. They will soon be bottom dwellers with no pipeline.

Also - Friedman reported that Horvat is looking for 8x8. He will be 28 when his deal kicks in and is a 55-60 point per season average player. IF they dont make the playoffs, what incentive is that for Horvat to sign? He will test the market, get his money, and pick where he wants to play.

Trying to understand how the islanders flip Horvat. They are good enough to stay in the hunt w this move.

Also I gotta think he made it known he’s going to fa. W that said Vancouver could not maximize his value by allowing teams to negotiate.

Good trade for the isles if they go to the semis or by signing him to a decent contract.

It’s ok not to award a winner right now, isn’t it?

The best asset in the deal is the 1st rounder. But now it’s up to the Canucks not to (frank) it up.
