Horvat just smells like a LLams type. I bet he doubles down and overpays him immediately.
Not a homerun for the Nucks but I think this is a pretty good deal for them. Extra picks in 23' are big value (rumour is most teams are telling sellers they won't part with a 23' ...only 24' picks). - The Law
Horvat has him over a barrel. Canucks didn’t let teams talk to him because he wasn’t going to agree to a deal. Bo knows Lou hurts if they flame out and he walks. If he stays, he sets the price. I think it’s more likely he goes to free agency. |

Well, I always value first rounders no matter the picking order. But our window is this year and next with the Core.
And I feel there's no way they would/ should move Knies without ever seeing his play in the lineup.
So it's the first for me too. - Leafsmart
Agree, Knies is too close to move. The pick could be 5 years out from being a player. |

Yeah, it's a decent trade for the Canucks. I can imagine they'd want a prospect with more flash than Raty - although the player he was projected to be the year before being prematurely elevated into a senior league where he hardly played (and supposedly lost his passion for the game as a result, if I recall that story correctly), was a projected top-5 pick in the same draft as Power, Luke Hughes, Kent Johnson, Matty Beniers and McTavish. That's a pretty solid prospect if he can find that form. Vancouver may have the youthful energy to find it again.
As I say, it's a lot more on the Islander side that I'm just surprised - they're on the outside looking in - they are on pace for 86 points. Boston, Tampa and Toronto have the Atlantic, and Carolina, Jersey and the Rangers have the Metro. That leaves Pittsburgh (95), Washington (91), Buffalo (94), Detroit (86), Florida (85) and to a much lesser extent Ottawa (82) and Philly (82) all in that chase. I don't think the addition of Horvat makes up those 10 points.
We'll see, but it's a bad move for a team that's on the wrong side of good, in my opinion - and I say this having defended them, saying that they are not as bad as some people say, but they are definitely not a contender.

Don't forget that Lou is not shy about handing out oodles of coin to UFA's. He's tough on kids and long hair but has always been quick to reward respectful veterans. Horvat can only get 8 yrs from the Isles ....I see it happening. |

I'm on the same page only I'm not surprised b/c this fits Lou's M.O. I think he'll prioritize re-signing Bo and give him 8 years at market price to keep him from going to market. |

Meanwhile in Kanata, Pierre Dorion stirs from a restless sleep and remembers when he was the star of the off-season.
Get Mike Grier on the phone and and call our press guys. Karlsson is coming home!
FWIW, NYI fans are saying they should have taken sharp instruments away from Lou just so he wouldn’t make any last stabs. - Canada Cup

Best part of the Horvat trade is that he didn't end up in Carolina TB or Boston. |

Minten is a good trade chip. Is having a good year and only 6 picks removed from a late 1st in 2022...could have similar value to the leafs 1st. |

Horvat was the perfect insurance policy for the Leafs at a joke of a price considering on what the Leafs have previously pissed away on 1st round picks.
When Tavares went down, they lost to Montreal. Matthews seems like he's always playing with an injury. Adding Horvat would have given the Leafs a great 3rd line center who can win FOs, shut guys down and still score 30+ goals if he needs to replace one of the big guys in the top six.
Even keeping him long term is possible if you just dump Kerfoot and LTIR Muzzin.
Absolutely stupid from Dubas to not be on top of this one. Huge missed opportunity.

I'm sure another shutdown C on pace for 50 goals from London ONT is gonna go for a song and dance the day of the deadline. |

It's not a joke of a price. Leafs would have had to include Knies to top that offer. Raty is better than any Leaf prospect not named Knies and that Isles pick is probably 10 spots higher than a Leaf pick in a loaded draft.
I'd bet that the Devils land Meier and it'll cost them Holtz and a 1st. Devils are deep in prospects and can move some.
The Leafs will add someone. Tarasenko, RoR, Kane, Toews, Bertuzzi, Henrique, ....someone from that group maybe. |

Dave Poulin just said the Leafs were trying to trade into the top 10 in 2013 to draft Morrisey. Ended up picking Freddie Goat.

So what? Knies is years away from being half of what Horvat is now. The Leafs have two years to get this done before Matthews is a potential UFA.
I heard for 3 years how Robertson was gonna be the prospect of the ages for the Leafs. He's been useless. Knies is a giant question mark. The time is now.
That group you listed is inferior for one reason or another. Injury prone players having terrible years with no long term re-sign potential. Horvat was the guy who helps the Leafs both today and for the next 5 years. He's in his prime, guaranteed 20-30+ goals every year and plays two-way hockey. Playoff type performer too. |
