I don't disagree with that.

But setting aside all of that, he is still one of my 3 favorite NHL players of all time. I will let others pass judgement on him as a human being, I'm not worthy.

He was an awesome hockey player who I loved watching as a kid.

I remember one night, watching him take a shot from center ice that was sailing over the net , the goaltender caught the shot but it knocked him on his back. and the puck trickled out of his glove across the goal line into the net. That was Bobby !

Nothing much better than when Bobby and the Hawks came in on Saturday night to play at the Gardens in Toronto and then right back at the Stadium on Sunday night.

Hall of gamer Giacomin was so afraid of facing Bobby, that they used to always start Villemute against the Hawks.

Remember Hull picking up the puck behind the Hawks nets and streaking up the right side of the ice and even the crowd in Maple Leaf Gardens used to rise up and there was a buzz of excitement.

Whatever Hull’s personal failings, every NHL player since should be worshipping him. Hull signing with the WHA is just as important as Curt Flood challenging the reserve clause.

How many pieces will Lazerus and Westhead do about Hull’s transgressions.

Dots, I respect your opinion. We all would agree to retain 1/2 his salary and trade him for a 1st round pick. Would you do the same for a 2nd. Would you take a 3rd with no salary retained. a 4th?
- -Doh-

I think more than 1 second round pick if they are eating 2 more years of his salary

If they aren't eating any salary then if they get something like a 3rd or a 4th great

The only reason to trade him is if some team overpays. I don’t see Johnson, Tinordi or C. Jones being resigned, so there will already be 3 openings on D next year. And you still need to reach the cap floor.

RIP Bobby Hull. My Pop's hero. He finally got his autograph after the first of the three recent cups and mentioned he was the nicest guy ever.

Interesting TSN Yost article about Kane/Toews value from today.

The Golden Jet brought excitement to every rink in the NHL at that time, even the suits at the Gardens got revved up when Bobby came to town.

And many forget at age 37 he played on the greatest team ever assembled and led the team in goals in that tournament - Team Canada 1976.

And if they had let him play in the 1972 Canada - Russia series, Vladdy Tretiak would never had made the Hall of Fame because Bobby would have blasted a couple of slappers off his head early.

RIP BOBBY...THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES

I was lucky enough to have season tickets as a kid and got to watch THE GREATEST LEFT WING in the history of the NHL. I also was lucky enough on more than one occasion to meet and talk hockey with him. Also, my son and grandson got to meet him.

He made me love hockey and I have many memories of goals he scored but the two that standout in my mind are: His 51st goal against the Rangers and the OT goal he scored I believe it was in the 71 playoffs also against the Rangers.

I am not here to judge his flaws or any man's flaws because we all have them.

Yeah he was my hero as a kid, but he wasn’t a good human.
- paulr

This is why it's extremely important to realize that hockey players, as well as any professional athlete, shouldn't be viewed as "heroes." We are all at fault at some point in our lives for doing this as kids, or parents and allowing our children to do the same. Today's athlete has zero chance to escape anything thanks to the cell phone and you have to ask yourself how many athletes of yesterday would have a tarnished image IF that technology existed. I know of 1 NBA player that reigned supreme globally and in Chicago for starters. It's not an excuse for a guy like Bobby Hull. Before my time, and a great player but like many said a horrific human being off the ice. Does/did he ever have any chance to make up for it? Can anyone ever make ammends?

To Mo's point....the Hawks desperation to bring this guy back into the fold and fan's ability to look the other way as he pounded his drinks in his horrible rug is very much the definition of hypocrisy.

Yes sir - $1M bonus and $250 grand a year.

And when he left he had 604 NHL goals - if he had remained in the NHL he likely finishes up with 800, maybe even 900. Had 300 in the WHA while he was gone.

And I hope the same forgiveness is granted to Q and Stan.
- mohel

I've forgiven Stan and Q for the Beach incident as I put the blame squarely on upper management and you'll never convince me a weasel like McDonough didn't go to Rocky to alert him. McDonough was/is the prototypical stereo type backstabbing corporate suit you'd find in any sitcom/movie from any generation. Fact that not one of "his guys" can locate this clown and press him...tells you how air tight Rocky's attorney drafted that NDA and golden parachute. For that alone...Rocky can eat a bag of d--ks just as big as McDonough.

My blame for Stan is 100% what shape he left this team in and his ego puffing move of hiring a hockey glue sniffer in JC. The moves/pressure to build a winner late and abandon a rebuild can be debated to take away from the Beach saga...but the JC move each day as Richardson coaches can't.

Id rather have JC as my life coach than read anything either of those 2 liberal clowns write.

The sooner Lazerus gets a national job, which he will, the better life will be. Let him go live on the east coast so he can fawn over the islanders.

Professional writers with an agenda are a joke. In any form.....news, journalism, etc.

Looks like the Isles trade verifies my thoughts that there is a strong 12 in the first tiers of this draft class.

Thought the same.....have to think it's the Rangers or bust. Maybe the Devils?

To Paul's earlier posts...read the same about returns for Toews....so unless Davidson finds a sucker, and god knows these GMs lose their damn minds over D men at the deadline (remember what the Hawks gave up for the corpse of Timmonen?)...can't see it being more than a 3rd.

Gotta love the Wirtz family.....

I would love to be a fly on the wall when they talk about cutting costs and Davidson has to remind them of the salary cap floor. has to boil the old man's blood worse than Lazerus question at a town hall.

This time if he does go to his moutpiece, Crain's, I'd actually believe him he's losing money vs his BS spin back in the hey day 14 years ago.
