I worry we were spoiled with the Bunting discovery (a 950k top 6) - that doesn't come around in FA very often. Fingers crossed though.

I just have little faith in cheap free agent finds.

Good reason to worry - rare discovery. Two recent ones were Bunting and Hagel. How much did Hagel go for again?

Problem for the Leafs is they need 2 top six players and one or two spares that can slot in there if there is an injury. For me Jarnkrok is one of the spares. Knies - hard to count on him just yet but getting him there while he's on an entry level deal certainly helps. Unfortunately the prospect pool for LW within the organization is thin with injury/health/experience questionmarks on Robertson, Amirov and Knies. Honestly, firing Kerfoot, Engvall and Kampf into the sun and finding minimum wage replacements is the way I would suggest makes sense. I like Bunting alot, he brings an attitude, willingness to grind and a work ethic that is in short supply on this team.

Let’s assume all the scouts are right and Knies becomes one top six guy. The challenge after that isn’t finding another top six guy internally, it’s finding replacements for Engvall and Kerfoot’s almost $6M. I think the chances of that are much better. Then you either pay or replace Bunting. I actually think Bunting is a bit overrated or at least unlikely to be worth what he’s going to want. Finally, I say keep Kampf unless he’s looking for a really big raise

If Kerfoot is not slotting into the top 6 I think his $$ is freed up this summer (or sooner if they need it). I like Kampf so hopefully they can get him on a similar deal again.

If that hypo played itself out then they'll look into a trade or buyout. One year left and his buyout is pretty team friendly if it came down to that.
