I think it could depend on how the convo's with Bunting go and what teams are asking for in those trades. Lots of options.
Good leverage for Leafs either way. - The Law
Hard to imagine a team signing bunting for a lot of money, we'll see. |

Teams would line up for that deal. Ducks can do better.
I think at about 25% retained you probably get a 2nd and B prospect back. Not sure the Leafs do it until they figure out if Bunting is going to sign on long term. Same variables in play for Garland and other guys with term I think. - The Law
At only 25% you are only at 4 mil.. I think Leafers would want more salary retained if possible... And we have Room to take more back.. Maybe a 5th was shooting to low. Perhaps like you said a 2nd and B or C level kid.
With the way Mintyukov and Zellweger are crushing their leagues and Pasyujov even...
Trade Vatrano / Klingburg / Uncle Rico / Krappenkirk / Kulikov ... just play all the kids next yr.

Zacha at 4.75 is probably a comp too. |

If they find a decent LW with some term, and with Knies coming in, I think Bunting gets Hymanized - Canada Cup
I think Bunting resigns in TO even if they find a winger. Not to start a great debate but I personally think one of Willy or Marner will be gone in offseason |

Bunting has way more value than Kerfoot IMO. Re-signing Matthews should be the top off season priority, then Nylander then Bunting. It will be hard to let Bunting go if he will sign for $4 to $4. Other teams may offer more, but honestly it should be third item on the off season agenda.

Are you guys already sold on Samsonov long term?
Or is now a good time to buy low on Demko?🤔 |

Absolutely spot on. Mikheyev might get 50 points for the first time in his career this season. Has has injury issues, got skater, doesn't hit much. Bunting scored 63 points as a rookie and looks to be backing it up with 50 to 60 points, drawing penalties and is the best poop disturber on the team. Not even close IMO as far as value goes. Demko is perfect for Vancouver ...they won't move him.
Samsonov is perfect for T.O. ....team control for another year and he's shown that he can work nicely in a shared net. Revisit g'tending in the summer. If Samsonov takes the crease (continues to) and Woll stays healthy that, along with a cheap veteran, might be next years crease. |

If Leafs can lock up Samsonov for a decent number long term - its a no brainer. Not sold on Demko. Samsonov had one so-so season, better team but he has better numbers and pedigree than Demko IMO. Besides all that, Samsonov is an arbitration eligible RFA, Leafs already have him, don't have to give up assets to get him. His price tag, is likely less than the $5M that Demko makes

For sure. I assume Bunting is $4M to $5M depending on term in the open market. Marchment got 4 x 4.5M with a similar resume. Zacha 4.75 x 4. Sounded like his agent was angling for more term so maybe there's a solution around $4 with more term.
Leafs have more cap flex then people realize. They can re-sign 34, 88, Bunting and add the other winger if they wanted. Muzzin's long term fate and whether they want to add $$ on the blueline or in goal would also factor in those choices. |

Mikheyev kills penalties and has shown to be a play driver without elite players, Bunting has not. |

Me either, its pretty clear he doesn't drive play like Zacha or Mikheyev.
They just aren't the same players. |

That’s the big question
If Samsonov wants 5m x 4…..Demko all day
This year was his only bad year
Top 5 goalie
Imagine him behind our team? |

If that hypo played itself out then they'll look into a trade or buyout. One year left and his buyout is pretty team friendly if it came down to that. |

I don't disagree ...as long as you have a replacement. 25 goal guy that plays an accessary role pretty well. Not a driver, not a good defender but mucks up the net front and walls.
Not sure any replacement costs less unless Dubie thinks Knies and Robertson are ready or has another Buntingesque discovery out there. |

It’s part Dubie discovery and part sprinkling Matthews/Marner pixie dust on them.

Problem for the Leafs is they need 2 top six players and one or two spares that can slot in there if there is an injury. For me Jarnkrok is one of the spares. Knies - hard to count on him just yet but getting him there while he's on an entry level deal certainly helps. Unfortunately the prospect pool for LW within the organization is thin with injury/health/experience questionmarks on Robertson, Amirov and Knies. Honestly, firing Kerfoot, Engvall and Kampf into the sun and finding minimum wage replacements is the way I would suggest makes sense. I like Bunting alot, he brings an attitude, willingness to grind and a work ethic that is in short supply on this team. |
