There is always the possibility of a hockey trade at the deadline but the Flyers will not be buyers. It would take a miracle run for them to make the playoffs.

they can easily be both a buyer and a seller.

Don't see it. Team is still stuck in neutral at best. Don't see the light at the end of this long tunnel as of yet.

First and foremost the Flyers have a franchise goalie, there really should be no doubts in anyone's minds about this. No team can contend for a cup without a top end goalie and the Flyers not only have that, but they have good goalie depth also. Second the Flyers have good depth and youth in their middle set of forwards. Yes they lack top end talent, but so far this year we clearly see the Flyers have more youth, speed, skill and toughness than they have had in a quite a while. This is also very important in building a Cup contending team. Next the Flyers have good depth on defense. Yes the Flyers lack a top end defenseman, but they have good 3, 4 and 5 level defenseman and have both experience and youth. Finally the Flyers have a good coaching staff that are creating a winning culture here, this is also very important not only for the players on the team currently but those coming up or added from the outside also. All that is left is of course the hardest, finding that top end talent at center and on defense, but I can see the foundation of the house being built this season.

The Flyers have 3 defenseman that you would want to keep around as part of a top team and all 3 play the left side. The current Flyers coaching staff is not a coaching staff that a team is going to become a top team under. The Flyers basically have a high paid interim coaching staff that it eventually going to have to be changed.

What toughness do the Flyers have?

The building mental toughness and resilience to stick with the system, that is what I meant. They can also stand up and play tough if they need to. This year to their credit the Flyers are not getting pushed around as they did in past years.

Curious to all in favor of tanking. The LA Kings have won two cups in the passed decade. How many first overall picks did they have that led to those two cups?

1. Define franchise goalie. Hart is good and inconsistent. After the first 8 game hot start his number are noting special in any way. Teams can contend and win a cup without a top end goalie. See the vas last year.
2. Their forwards are solid complimentary plyers that every team has, sorry if I don’t get all excited about Frost tippet and Cates.
3. Flyers core 2 dman have been here for a while now and pretty much have not advanced in getting much better. Again the word solid comes into play. Add York and you have 3 players.
4. Flyers coaching staff is once again just solid. See a theme here? Flyers still get outplayed a lot. Still give up prime chances. There are some positives.
5. They are under .500, what winning culture?

IMO if those guys above our your foundation or a big part of it, you building is not so strong. Hope it is hurricane proof.

Can we just stop and let things play out. It is absolutely undeniable that John Tortorella is a successful coach in the NHL. He left Tampa, New York and Columbus in better shape than he left it. Do I agree with every single one of his choices? Absolutely not but I am much more entertained this year than I have been the past number of years.

As for toughness. Yes we’re a more physical and much tougher team than we have been since Wayne Simmonds and Radko Gudas were traded. The Flyers can actually stand up for themselves now. Like, what are we fighting about here? We’re currently watching a 500 team. I have no doubt the team’s play could dip at anytime but at least they’re enjoyable to watch.

IMO Torts deserves the Jack Adams this year and its not even close. Monty inherited a great team in Boston and Brind'more has been with a great team for a while now. But what Torts is doing with this roster plus the injuries plus the culture around the team starting this year, its really incredible the Flyers are even winning as much as they are. I don't think you need to do much coaching for the Bruins or Hurricanes to win, but coaching has been the biggest part of this year's Flyers team so far.

Why not? The Flyers are in the bottom 3rd of the league completely because of the roster they have. Without Torts and his staff, the Flyers would in fact be the front runner to land Bedard. The Flyers are a tough team to play against whether you like it or not. They play 60 minutes of hockey, the effort is there, they are physical and have players that can beat you up, plus they have a world class goalie. Yes, the Flyers are a tougher team to play against this year by a very wide margin.

Last year's team was easy to play against, as soon as something went wrong in the game the team gave up and the it was a easy night. This current team IMO is 180 degrees from last year's team in terms of toughness to play against.

Tortorella is not going to have a chance in that. How does moving a team up a few slots and still in the bottom 3rd of the league, win the Jack Adams? LOL Really incredible is hyperbole. Montgomery has that locked up right now and his coaching changes have been paramount to Boston's success. He really did something with the Bruins.

The Flyers aren't a tough team to play against. What is their record against playoff teams? Effort does not equal toughness. The main player who can "beat people up" when he is on the ice, the other team scores 70% of the goals.

first 7-8 games coming out of the break, vs solid teams, Flyers could easily go 3-5 or even 2-6, seems theses games could go a long way in making or not making the Flyers sellers/buyers
