The “issue” is cozens contract extension
- Sabretooth9

They could give him a extension and still be under the floor. The Cap should not keep the Sabres from doing this deal if it was to happen.

Just goalie prospects being unpredictable? Fair enough. Still say they are in no position to trade him.

I'm with you.
Levi and Portilo are similar in regard to by being a Goalie and playing in college, but also different scenarios based on reports of what they have said and not said. Portillo apparently has no plan to join the Sabres and reportedly told the Sabres that. There aren't any reports I have seen on Levi communicating the same.
People want to lump Portillo, Johnson and Levi in the same group though.

If it's a timing concern of potentially extending Meier before extending Cozens, that shouldn't be an issue as, from what I understand, they've already been talking with Cozens representation about an extension.

If it is a real concern in terms of how the Sabres do business, work on extending Cozens this offseason first, then work on extending Meier.

It's not like they can't afford Meier's qualifying offer.

Sabres can make it work, yes 4 or 5yrs down the line it could hurt, but the Sabres should be able to keep rolling a few ELC's and 1st contracts throughout that time. I would be shocked if they made a move for Timo but they could do it.

Peterka is on a 35 point type pace this season
Would it be ridiculous to expect 50 next season?

Not sure if your getting the value out of meier.
JJ on a minimum contract at under a million 50 points
Meier at 10 million maybe 80 points.

It's a go for it move. I respect that.

Seems very unkyvyn

Or trade horvat at the deadline if they fall.out.

Think vanek trade to the isles....

So a 2nd round pick and nothing prospect, after giving up a first in a very strong draft, a decent prospect, and a versatile bottom 6 winger?

Sabres can fit Meier long term but it won't be easy.

My guess is that's why Adams would only make the deal if he could center it around the 2024 1st, and not include any of the following: 2023 1st, Peterka, Quinn, Krebs, Savoie, Kulich.

The Sabres management knows they're going to need as many quality forward prospects as possible to be able to fill the production quotient they'll need from ELC contracts, especially if they bring in a big name, high price player like Meier.

Pretty much agree, but that 1st becomes less important the farther the Sabres move up the standings. Yes it's a good forward draft, but the meat and what are prospect pool needs(Defense) is heavy between 35-65. Those 2nds could be just as important.

Adams is in control problem is, what will he cost money wise with the other players they will have to sign. He doesn't want to have cap issues, they are working on that issue now, then after that they will discuss what it will take to trade for him.

The Coyotes came back again trying to work a Chychrun deal but the answer still is no on including Savoie.

Adams won't let anything rush them to move for Meier but there is interest. The Hanifin talk may come up again as well also.

Never any interest in Horvat.

At least there is talk of getting Defense on this team instead of More Offense. We don't need any more offense we have one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL we need to keep the puck out of the back of our net now.

ps, if we can get a younger stud D-man that is locked up at good term, I have no issues using an unproven asset like Savoie.

They will try and do both but not at the futures expense and they won't move Savoie from what I was told. I guess anyone can be moved.

I really wish they would hire one host at WGR who could talk about hockey. All those guys can do is talk around hockey. They can talk about the standings, they can talk about trade ideas, they are terrible and spend almost no time actually talking about any given game itself. Can someone even mention or ask the coach about Carolina? Maybe contrast Carolina as the best cycle team in the NHL against Buffalo maybe the best transition rush team in the NHL. Maybe talk about Aho or Burns or somebody.

Nope, Rasmus Dahlin isn't in the all star game. That's the type of talk. Or the NHL playoff format. Or a 3, 2, 1 point system. Anything to not actually talk about playing hockey on the ice.

Give Marty and Duffer a 4-hour show and let them take calls, please.

Hanafin, like Noah Hanafin? He's excellent. Very, very good. And he's had a better career than someone else from that draft, which would just be a little meaningless, delicious cherry on top.

edit: meant to quote a different post, but still the same question. Hanafin would be a tremendous add.

"It's like we are 19,090 strong - 20 of us in uniform, the rest of us in the stands. Together we are going to break the other team mentally. That's what it feels like."

How do you not love this guy?

My biggest thing about the whole crew is not one single person can ever talk about non pro sports. I stopped calling after years back talking about the NFL draft stuff and long story short is they would say oh i never saw them play or they dont know about them like it doesnt matter to them.

I think you're low on Levi. His stock is high. I'd say late 1st, maybe early 2nd value.

Without another goalie in the system, not someone I'd consider moving.

- Lunaion

My "issue" with levi that im a tad afraid of is does he have the nhl body? Is he goign to be in the same vain and that college football player who is amazing in college but rather pedestrian in the league?
Remember steve sheilds was a great college goalie as well. Portillo has the body the NHl is looking for.

Steve Shields. Did everyone else immediately think Garth Snow too?
