From reading it, yeah actually.

He has a lot of good things to say about Gauthier, Kaplan, Andrae, Foerster, and Zamula.

The big advantage here is the Flyers really don't have to spend this off-season on free agents, which means they may be able to actually bank some cap space. The Flyers have plenty of young players that can fill roster spots at every position and continue to develop under Torts.

2017 NHL draft, not only did the Flyers get a turd at # 2, they took Ratcliffe who will never be an NHL regular 3 picks ahead of Jason Robertson who is currently in the top 5 in the League in scoring. And people wonder why this franchise is where it is.
- PLindbergh31

And yet Hextall is still heralded by some as a good drafter! The draft before this one was a turd also, trading down instead of trading up and then taking Laberge over DeBrincat in the 2nd round.

They will spend. That is a fact. The have every year pretty much. There is no well they can bank cap space. That is not a concept that exist with the flyers.

They need something bonafide to go with that, but without 1 piece the rest are lost.
- Glak18

Right, that is why the Flyers need to sell, sell and sell some more, get into the top 5 of this draft and get a bonafide top end center.

- hello it's me 2050

And how is that working for our AHL team? More mediocrity! Way to go, feltch
It's poop like this that proves that this team will never move forward under the hand of the feltch

Not with Comcast and the feltch. That cap space will burn a hole in his pocket. He will overpay for some schmuck (for examples Hayes, ND, RR, TDA.... you can say sanheim is overpaid as well)
Good times ahead, flyers fans! Until feltcher is gone this team will not contend because of his awful deals he signs these guys to.

I still hate that trade and the new contract that they gave that guy but we are stuck with him. I hope he continues to regain some form so we can flip him for a 4th rd pick...eventually
- Bob Habib

Flyers are stuck with him so if he can contribute offensively, that's better than nothing. You always have to look at cost and value. The question is with the cost to acquire, and the cap hit, can you be a quality team with Ristolainen in your top 4? I'd say no, you can't. That's the issue and I think it will always be the issue.

They haven't had to spend on free agents for the last two off seasons. Nor did they need to give up high level future assets in trades but they have.

I don't know if having the 2nd worst overtime record in the league is really a positive. How long before old man Torts figures out that his two defensemen/one forward strategy is not working?
- Feanor

Not defending Torts here but the Flyers did not finish prime opps in OT the last two losses.

Finally, someone other than me is saying this! Its about time! Give the player some credit, and Torts and Shaw credit also.

I agree with all of this. The price was excessive, and the new contract was excessive as well but CF doubled down on his mistake instead of move him for assets last season. We are, sadly, stuck with him and it sucks.
I think we are all hoping he puts his gsme together but even then how much more does he have to offer? I don't see much else but I'll take whatever he can contribute to the game

Yes, we are stuck with Risto, but we are also stuck with Sanheim, Ellis, Atkinson and Couturier. We can thank our GM for this! So all Torts can do is get the most of out what he has and so far he has done just that.

reduced minutes
reduced role
lesser competition

He is sunk cost. So if he can be a solid bottom pair guy then so be it.

Yes, but I wonder if the mindset is different now. Probably not but I still am holding out hope. I guess we'll see what happens at the trade deadline and then in the off-season. The mindset last year was doing an aggressive retool by getting 2 or 3 players would fix everything. I think Torts coming in here and Briere being given a louder voice has maybe changed some minds. I can only hope Scott and Fletcher heed what Torts has been consistently preaching that this team is currently lower than a rebuild but are still trying to lay the footings, and change their direction. "We'll see" as the old farmer says.

How do you know Briere has been given a louder voice? Tortorella green lighted moves such as bringing in Deslauriers last Summer.
