From Bill's 5 things

Been a while since we had the "Frost ain't no NHLer conversation"

* Twenty-three-year-old Morgan Frost has 18 points in the last 21 games (7g, 11a), tied with Laughton for the second-most on the club in that span. His nine credited takeaways are tied for fourth and he has even been credited with 30 hits. He has also improved in the faceoff circle in that span, nearing the break even mark at 49.3 percent (131 wins, 135 losses).

Couldn't remember the exact quote but knew it boiled down to 'this guy's terrible, but everyone in the front office seems to think he's incredible'. Laughable they thought they unearthed a Jeannot type. I think he's been healthy scratched in the AHL a few times this year.

- TobyFlenderson

much like Isaac he did not look that bad or put place in his nhl stint last season. didn't warrant a 2 year deal.

Hurt or healthy?
- MJL

Healthy. He’s been bad this year. Played poorly with Kaprizov and Zuccarello to start the year. Then missed over 20 games with an injury. He’s taking too many bad penalties. Evason was fuming at him for taking 2 horrible penalties against Tampa.

He’s had a nice run….hopefully he continues to take advantage of the opportunity he’s getting.

Picking 9-11 with the GM surviving at least till the summer feels like a step backwards and a lost year. I guess the counter is at least some of the young guys improved. The newer edition of the Farwell era continues. Sigh

It was just had on the other thread.

Apparently, there are no signs that Frost could become a top 6 NHL player.

So glad Chuck locked up Hayden Hodgson on a two year NHL deal this summer.

Two AHL goals in half a season.

The contract is only gets better. Next season is a one-way. He'll make the NHL minimum to play in the AHL.

Do we now only count points against certain teams? Did the Flyers only dress one line?

It was a combined eight points. Guess what ? He's produced against some pretty good teams, too.

I was being sarcastic. I like Frost and the way he plays - that was more of a poke at the Frost is an AHL player crowd

I think it was Charlie who said he heard rumblings around Christmas that Chuck was finally on the hot seat. And then this newfound 'hot streak' apparently saved his bacon. Imagine being in a position that completely ignores the last two years of your employment performance. I wish I had that job security.
- TobyFlenderson

If that’s true, it’s an indication to me that the ownership group do not want to fire Chuck and will find any pseudo-plausible reasons to keep him, despite his largely dismal performance here….that’s how I read it.

Simple... you put a skilled player (with fragile confidence) around other skilled players with complementary abilities, give them a fair chance to thrive, and he probably will.

Put that player with career AHL players or 4th line caliber players for weeks at a time, yo-yo him around ice time wise, give him the 10th most PP time on the team and nitpick his every mistake, you set him up to fail and he probably does.

Simple as that. Not rocket science.

Take out the 2 outlier games and how does that production look?

Four-point games are outliers for everyone. And the answer is he's still been productive. Points in 4 of his last 5 games. Points in 7 of his last nine.

He should be scoring more points against the bad teams. Isn't that what most middle six forwards do?

Pretty much agree with that. More emphasis will be put on the injuries too: 'Imagine if we had Coots and Atkinson all year, we'd be a playoff team!' Only 8 points out of a playoff spot baby.

Should he refuse the points? I don't get what the beef is here. A point is a point. Of course it is easier to score against the Yotes than it is to score against the Rangers. Duh

Or maybe the person they want to take his place feels he isn't ready yet and they want to keep Chuck around for another season.

I get both sides of the argument. they will all pad stats when they can.

but is similar to empty net goals. someone has 23 goals on the year. 8 were empty net goals....yet they will be referred to as a 20 plus goal scorer. sometimes secondary assists are similar as well. player passes to peter forsberg...he skates around deking everyone for 20 seconds and then makes an amazing pass. the secondary assist player did nothing but give him the puck. still an assist though.

And sometimes the secondary assist is the key play and the primary is someone's rebound that got tapped in. Or maybe nothing else would have happened if not for a good entry or takeaway but there were two other touches before the goal is scored and there is no point awarded to the player who started it. Ultimately, it kind of evens out.

There are some who slag plays for lots of PP points and not so many ES points. But they count the same for a team.

The good thing about Frost is 20 of 24 points are ES. That is good production for a second/third line center. Hopefully he can start clicking on the powerplay as well.
