More truth-bombs from Mike. Saturday night was just another example of "pure heart" vs "pure skill". How many "lessons" does this team need to learn? Being a Leaf fan is frustrating at times.
Hope the boys show up for a full 60 minutes tonight. - rSole
So the habs are the "pure heart" team?

You must love the 9 player, 5 draft pick (all Leafs picks) trade with the Flyers suggested by Rock_1978. |

These dudes are not Josh Anderson, PLD, Tom Wilson, Marchand, Thachuk 1 or 2...these dudes aren't even Max Domi level.
The one thing I do agree with you about is as soon as the Leafs get a player that's known for hits and gritty play, they don't seem to do that any more. Almost like the Dubas/Keefe "possession" game doesn't allow a player to get out of position with a hit. I'm starting to think it's the team "system" and not the acquired players.
But one thing that is 100% clear to me, when I saw Savard dump JT hard to the ice last Habs game, I knew exactly the type of defender we're missing. One that stays in front of the net and punishes players who get any near the goalie before AND after the whistle. The Leafs could definitely use one of those. Our players are usually on the bench drinking blue gatorade already before the last opponent is out of the goalie's face. - underhill14
Being fair, you're right, but at the same time, Josh Anderson is a really, really far cry from Marchand, Wilson or Tkachuk. PLD is a female dog. Please let's not put him in that mix.
Anderson is a big guy with a good shot and when he gets motivated and going, he can be good - and that said he's never passed 27 goals in a season, and has been pacing around 20 for the past 3 seasons with just massive negative statistics. In his playoff runs - two of which standout (Montreal and Columbus the year they beat Tampa), he was far from the reason, with 1 goal in 10 games, and 5 goals and an assist in 22.
My problem is that he's just so expensive for a guy who is really a third line player who can bounce up to the top-6 when needed there.
But also, in agreeing with your point, that's my point as well - the Leafs' system doesn't easily forgive guys who go out of their way to deliver hits and are late on the backcheck. We want to block the neutral zone and put pressure on the puck carrier prior to zone entry - if you're out of position, you're not helping in the NZ. In the D-Zone, we're better equipped to deliver hits (a la Muzzin or Boosh, etc.), but on the forecheck, I'm not sure Keefe wants a lot of that if the puck is moving back up ice.

I suspect he uses the same plan every year - most gigs in that plan probably closed years ago |
