Worst thing to happen to that franchise was Barzal having an amazing start to his career. He's a great player but he wasn't replacing JT and he isn't a franchise player.

Cap jumping up soon is going to be a factor but I'd guess Forsberg's 8.5 x 8 is low end (too low now) ...and Huberdeau's 10.5 x 8 is the high end.

Considering it'll be a year from now, why would Huberdeau's 10.5 be the ceiling? Willy is leading the team in goals and points while 3 other players on the team make way more than him.

I mentioned this before, I think Willy is pricing himself out of town. No way they can afford Matthews' and his contract increases the same year. You're looking at adding about 5-6 million between them.

Sure, cap is going up a bit, but it won't be anywhere near where they expected it to be at the end of those contracts.

It seems like this is the year they have to make it all happen with this core 4.

A lot depends on how they deal with the $21M from Engvall, Kerfoot, Brodie, Muzzin, and Murray. How much has to go to internal raises for Sandin, Lilli, etc, how for guys to be brought in and how much set aside for the big boys.

Right because Marner and Barzal are the same lol.

21 goals > 11 goals and I think 31 GM's would prefer a guy who has 21 goals on their team.

Player who has scored no less than 24 goals in 13 of his 14 seasons in the NHL season (19 in the shortened season is also > a player who has scored 20 goals once in his 7 seasons in the NHL.

And as far as being on crappy teams how bad were the Islanders teams JT was on early in his career when he was still scoring 25 or 25+ goals per season?

One of the best player in the league for entering the zone with the puck and creating something.

He's not perfect (he barely scores himself) but he's someone that makes players around him much better.
